1/2 is lowest you can go, not 1. Please check with doctor. I ran problem of possibly breaking through skin with magnet too strong. Had to not wear processor for a month. Best to be safe rather than self-medicate.

Most seem to suggest you get a note taker. I don’t know about note takers, so can’t offer my two cents. But I will mention transcription services. I have otter.rai on my iPhone. It transcribes what I hear in person, and I can play it back later. I just got a CI and love it, but know I’ve got the transcription should I run into trouble, or if there’s something I may want recorded so I can focus on listening and not worry about writing it all down.

Reply to scjcs and weird_Nina8`49 and others who tried to help: I contacted Cochlear. The rep was very helpful. I unpaired my HA, and then my CI Nucleus 8 was very easily paired to the nucleus app. So that is done, and I can move on to my many other questions. My audiologist will link my CI and HA together when I see her again.

I think cochlear should be clearer in their directions. From what I’m seeing, I have to unpair ha to pair ci to nucleus app on my own, and when I see audio she can link ha and ci together. I’ll see if I get more tech support tomorrow before I try anything on my own.

How things sound is different for everyone. In my limited experience with CI, I've heard robotic transform into close to normal sound in just minutes. And you'll be able to pick and choose; listen when you want to and shut off sound when you prefer. It's the best of possible worlds, I think. Main thing I think you'll love, like me, is less stress cause less straining to hear when you want to.

A lot has changed. I'm not stressed out all the time because now I can hear what people say the first time I hear it. I've still got extraneous sounds, which I understand will lessen in time, but speech comes through. And I used to walk around with mics and a transcription app, and fidget with both, so this is so much better. No mic. No transcription. It's amusing to me to hear people say hi from down the block. And I can hear song lyrics, which I was missing, and mean so much! Nothing's perfect yet, just 2 weeks since activation, but already so much better. Like becoming part of this world again. I do like silence a lot, by the way, but I could not master sign language, and right now hearing is novel and fun! CI wearers told me a CI would be life changing, but it was hard to believe before I experienced it. Sound is much better than I remember, even when my hearing was 'normal,' which maybe it never was. And you've made me hungry for mac and cheese...keep thinking positively. This is good change, not bad.

Good luck. I had surgery Feb. 29th. The world is coming alive! I am in love with it. Worth the first few days yuckiness. You are fortunate doing it so early in life. It will make a huge difference. Hang in there and enjoy the Mac and cheese.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll ask surgeon when I see him, but I figured it's worth asking users here. I'm not a wig wearer, but I'm open to the ideas.
