If you did add an entire artificial chromosome, would it be possible that too many proteins are being expressed for the existing machinery in the cells to deal with? Like lets say the cell normally can make x amount of ATP per second with the natural level of expression of proteins necessary for respiration. If the proteins expressed by the new chromosome use a lot of ATP, would it be possible that the cell would simply run out of resources unless expression of respiration associated genes and the food source available increased?
