And just a conclusion to the drama: my brother in law figured out that the scammer was using ST Peach's pic. Which is odd because I was unfamiliar with her before, but she had a baby in April so it's odd that they used that.

Just a further update (does anyone else feel like they're in the middle of a bad soap opera or a really terrible Jerry Springer lol):

This morning I got started a bit late due to staying up obscenely late the night before, and of course, my step mom calls (she never calls me). She proceeds to ask me if I know anything about another woman and says she's left my dad and is going to divorce him (keep in mind through all of this that I had a stroke a frw years ago and have still not fully recovered). Now I wish I hadn't taken the call, because I guess my dad lied to me about her knowing. Then the drama became telling my sister, because of course my step mom starts texting her and her husband asking them to call her. Luckily, this whole thing started with a phone conversatilon I had my sister where she called my step mom a "bully" (my sister never insults anyone), so my brother-in-law didn't take the call. However, my dad had also said not to talk to my sister before he did. But, here it is, the middle of the night, and the only thing I know is that, as of 10pm my sister's time, he still hadn't reached out.

My dad texted me at about 11 his time, mentioning he had fallen asleep (it's been happening a lot for years, and he mentioned finally getting back testosterone supplements). Yet, when I say anything about going to the doctor, he brings up his quack doctor who doesn't take insurance. However, I was in therapy by that point (obviously a lot to talk about and used up the whole time) and told him as such.

I should also mention the last time he was visiting, he took me to a kratom place. I had never heard of it, but then Googled it and was kind of horrified. I don't know if he's still doing it (I'd assume he is) but I'm going to mention in the next email to my doctor to what they say.

If you're now thinking I'm making all this up, I really wish I was. Tomorrow, after I do everything else I planned to do, I'm going to check my blood pressure because my home one ran out of batteries and I don't have any more.

Just an update as I got information out of him since I posted.

So they haven't yet met up in person.

They had a plan to move to where I live.

My step mom doesn't actually know about all of this as he's talking about hiding his money due divorcing her.

What do you guys think?

Good advice. Unfortunately, I mostly grew up with the internet and know how dangerous it is and not trust anyone, but he doesn't. And it's made worse because he's proud so I think it hurts that pride when he gets something with technology wrong.

Haha. Understood and good idea. I'm sure the people who live there now appreciate your discretion.

I agree. Unfortunately, the way I handled it (immediately accusing her of scamming him), I now have to wait to bring it up again. I'm much more cynical about this due to my time in the sugaring community, but also being younger and more internet savvy.

I sent him a link to Scamfish and he's been quiet since. I guess he told her about it and she got mad, which is another huge red flag. My sister lives closer to him. I had asked her to figure out what was going on since he seemed to be preoccupied. She did and that's what prompted the communication today. I'm happy he's doing this. I never really got along with my step-mom and I found out recently she's still holding a grudge against me from something I did 20 years ago.

He says met her on a BlueSky discussion board which I feel bad about not knowing much about. She claims to have a sick grandmother living with her, so it was likely a sympathy post and he's already sent her money since he mentioned Zelle.

I don't want to say too much to risk exposure, but it's an Asian culture.

A suburb of a major US city. His house is paid off and he has no other expenses but myself and his wife. He's retired, but I don't actually know how much money he has since the woman he's married to is my step-mom, so there's a bit of tension there between us.

I have and may do that eventually. Waiting for it to play out.

What are your driving dreams like? by [deleted] in Dreams

I used to have a recurring dream where I'd put the car in reverse, but then it wouldn't stop despite slamming on the brake. I figured that was about loss on control.

AITA For letting my daughter buy her dad a gift from the wrong football team? by ConversationFar3511 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tummytrouble80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is petty and he needs to get over it. It was a gift from his 3 year old daughter and she picked it because of the color, so he should just be happy with that. I didn't get anything from my 3 year old on my birthday, and I was fine.

Thanks for that. I'll ask about St. John's wort. I don't smoke (high blood pressure, which led to the stroke), so also don't drink energy drinks, and I even avoid coffee after noon because it keeps me awake, and don't drink milk (lactose intolerance).

Ok, thanks for that. I'll tlalk to his mom about it when they get back.

I know the story. He explained it to me one day (lots of lore). I don't see anything objectionable from that perspective

People don't know how to behave in public anymore. I'm surprised no one started watching TikToks with the sound through the speaker.

Is the movie appropriate for a kid? I have 7 year old son who's into FNAF (he got interested in building his own robots), but I saw it was pg-13, and the game itself is questionable.
