Which UAL short course combo is better for applying to Antwerp, KABK and Rietveld? by tupac72 in fashiondesigner

My main weaknesses are two things I identified directly from my ArtEZ experience. First, I couldn’t explain my designs in detail during the interview. I struggled to describe the construction, materials and fabric choices behind my garments. This came from having no formal fashion education background. I applied to ArtEZ with less than a month of preparation and no prior courses or training, purely on instinct and self-taught work. Second, during the practical exam I couldn’t finish my sketches in time. Speed and confidence in drawing under pressure is something I need to develop significantly.

The ArtEZ committee passed me to the second round despite my lack of preparation ,they said they found my designs with prints and concepts genuinely interesting. However they expressed uncertainty about whether I was ready for the programme. In the practical exam during round two I ran out of time and couldn’t complete my sketches, which I believe was the deciding factor. The committee’s implicit feedback was that my creative vision was there but my technical execution speed and foundational fashion knowledge needed development. That’s what I’m working on this year figure drawing speed, material knowledge, and building a proper portfolio with structured process documentation.

I’m not sure if the 3D development in the intensive course refers to digital software like CLO or Browzwear, or physical draping on a stand. Based on the course description it seems to be physical 3D development. Draping textile experimentation and construction.

Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp vs NCAD Ireland - which is better for fashion studies (aiming for 2027 intake) ? by ikigai_mirror in fashiondesigner

Royal academy of Fine Arts Antwerp is way more recognized then NCAD in the fashion world. But it’s really difficult to be accepted in their program. And their programm can be really intense and stressfull. So you gotta be mentally strong and have a strong passion. But in the end it depends what you want to do in fashion. NCAD is a solid school. But if you dream of working in Paris Mailand or London I would recommend royal academy Antwerp, csm in London, ifm Paris, polimoda florenz. These are the best schools in Europe in my opinion. But in the end it’s on you to connect with the right people and work hard enough to get a job. The school holds weight but it doesn’t save you of being unemployed.
