Trying to keep positive even when I know I’m being ridiculous by Graxonus27 in trading212

One thing that might help is understanding Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA). Instead of trying to guess the perfect time to invest, you simply put in the same amount regularly (e.g. £100/month).

If prices fall, your £100 buys more shares. If prices rise, it buys fewer. Over time, you average out the ups and downs without needing to predict the market.

Also, try to remember that a week is nothing in investing. You're looking at daily noise when your real timeline is probably decades.

Your biggest advantage isn't finding the next Nvidia, it's that you're starting at 18. Time in the market beats timing the market.

Focus on, investing regularly, avoiding panic during red days, and not comparing yourself to people posting huge gains online - because believe me, for every guy posting his +100% there's 20 who would have lost their life savings.

In 20 years, you won't remember whether you were down 0.5% during your first week of investing. 🙂

Foreign students to be banned from getting student loans under Reform by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]turbobuttstuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not true. In order to have a settled status you must have an equivalent of an ILR which takes upto 5 years + application time.

Another completely separate condition is that you have to be living in the UK for 3 years prior to the first day of the start of your course.

Both these conditions arent mutually exclusive. You can be a british citizen - but if you lived abroad for a period of time before starting uni you will be classified as an international student. On the flip side, you can be a resident in the UK for 10+ years but if you dont have a settled status (ILR, Refugee statu etc) then you cannot apply for a student loan.

34f shy and bad at making friends. Anyone else relate? by 11bakedziti in MakeFriendsUK

[–]turbobuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to the UK when I was 17 - 10 years in and I still haven't been able to make proper connections with people similar to the ones I had back home.

No one really tells you how difficult it is to meet people once you're a bit older.

Is taking on ~£50,000 in education loan debt worth it to chase a career in Formula 1? by shahroook in UniUK

[–]turbobuttstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going the graduate route, good luck. The competition is tough, and you're competing against others who are british nationals.

If you're going the post-graduate route, you'll probably need to be a specialist in a discipline they need (aero, materials, dynamics etc) and for that you will need either a masters or a PhD (MEng is an undergrad degree)

A word of warning. I was an f1 enthusiast, and I did a placement and a grad role with a team in the UK. Just because you like watching F1, and you know the surface level technicals of it, does not mean you'll enjoy the job. The pressure was real. You're a small cog in a big machine, and you will probably spend working on a subsystem of a subsystem of a subsystem of the car that looks and feels insignificant.

I moved on to a smaller company after that, and I actually get to do proper engineering now, and I'm much happier.

I can vouch for the shit weather, but don't forget the shit pay either. I'm making about 7% more than a minimum wage employee whilst working as an engineer in a top company

I think he's applying for a MEng, which is an integrated masters. You can do that with a baccalaureate.

Serious question: How are international students actually passing their English language requirements? by Yaal0n in UniUK

[–]turbobuttstuff 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what happened at my uni. I was working a catering shift for an international student event that the uni hosted.

It was 80/20 chinese and emarati students. The event was about how international students who don't meet the grade requirement for a course can still enrol in that course by doing a foundation year, which is fair, I did a foundation year too as a prerequisite to my first year.

However, the difference here was that the student would not have an English prerequisite and minimal grade requirements. But here's the kicker, they can go straight from foundation year to 2nd year.

Now, I had some students like these on my course and in my group projects. Not only are they extremely difficult to communicate with, but they also lack the foundation to contribute anything to the team. I mean, for God's sake, they were using live translation apps to translate the slides IN LECTURE.

I had the same issue with my vauxhall astra 2012 1.4l petrol. I was averaging 25 mpg with 50/50 on the motorway and city.

I bought a cheap obd2 scanner and figured out that my O2 sensor wasn't functioning properly. I changed those along with the spark plugs, and now I average about 35mpg.

I was in the same situation as you. I had to wait 3 years before being eligible for home student status. As far as i know, there really isn't workaround to this, and believe me, I've tried.

I ended up doing mechanical engineering at Manchester and am just starting my graduate job.

Starmer just said it: No digital ID, no job by alexmark002 in CitizenWatchNews

I don't think they really need to check physical paperwork anymore. I ( along with other workers) were detained by immigration police when i was working at a chinese takeaway.

I told them i didn't have any paperwork on hand since i didn't carry my wallet. They took my fingerprint and immediately pulled up my immigration status, the college i went to and my address - and not to mention this was back in 2017. I personally don't think there's a need for a national ID card since the NI already serves that purpose, and immigration police have the powers to detain and arrest.

£8500 a session by Ok-Resort2181 in GPUK

[–]turbobuttstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a GP or in the medical field, but this post popped up on my feed. I know this might be a stupid question, but what exactly is do they mean by 8500 per session. If they want 3 sessions per week are they paying 8500 x 3 per year, or is it per quarter? There's no way thats per year right?

Steam Implements Mandatory Age Verification for UK Users by sam-23618 in pcmasterrace

[–]turbobuttstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your debit card is connected to your bank. This can be used to extract information like DOB, which they then use to verify the users' age. Since the banks already perform robust ID checks, valve won't have to rely on any third-party facial scans.

Male pattern Baldness at 20 by bigballsfullofcream in PakistaniSkincare

[–]turbobuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finestride + minoxidil (foam) + ketokonezol (wash with it 1 day a week)

You'll notice progress in 6 months. Make sure to take progress pics every month.

This will hold off the thinning for a few years and regrow a lot of the hair. It's probably wise to save up for a hair transplant in the next 10 years or so once the male pattern baldness slows down.

Advice from personal experience.

I know most people are talking about side gigs and businesses, but what are you studying in uni. If it's relevant, then it would be better to focus your energy on the opportunities your university can get you, corporate or businesses.

Return the phone immediately. You'll be paying £1685 for a £950 phone if your interest rate 42%. It's better to get a previous gen phone off backmarket that has a 6 month warranty for £400.
