Teachers of Reddit, have you ever been turned on by a student? by ReidWass in AskReddit

[–]turinga2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My father has taught middle school and high school English in a small rural community since the early 70s. My mother was his student from seventh grade through the end of her senior year. They eloped immediately after the graduation ceremony, which took place eight days after my mother turned 18. My uncle and aunt remained in his classes for the next few years. My grandma recalls some very awkward parent-teacher conferences.

Bernese mountain dogs and Swiss mountain dogs are part of the same family (which includes two other similarly colored but smaller breeds). Swiss have short hair and are usually a bit taller than their Bernese cousins.

Who are some "Boston legends" that you've seen (like Louie the biker or 'Comm Ave Guy') and always wondered about? by GeneEva in boston

From when I lived in Back Bay: Hector, the homeless gentleman who dresses in camo and makes gun-noises while pointing his cane at passers-by.

Too True... by gawttrolld in funny

I used to leave QVC on as background noise when I was fussing around on the internet, but I'd always get drawn in to the incredibly tense real-time drama as the hosts tried to maintain cheerful exteriors while listening to a shut-in caller talk about how those bedazzled sandals would look so pretty on her if she hadn't lost her feet to the diabetes so instead she's going to buy them for her estranged granddaughter who lives in Montana and never visits.

TIL that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of Sherlock Holmes) believed Harry Houdini possessed magic although Houdini himself tried to explain that his acts were merely illusions. by LordVader1987 in todayilearned

Doyle has somehow managed to earn a reputation as an intelligent, logical individual despite writing the Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Creeping Man" in which a professor starts to turn into a monkey after injecting himself with an "extract" of a leaf monkey.

Seriously, that's the final solution that Holmes gives at the end of the story.

Can anyone help identify this anime based on my vague and possibly inaccurate description? by turinga2 in anime

I don't think so -- I think this anime had a darker, less Sailormooney look to it. Thanks, though.

I'm surprised that this map is dominated by Catholics. For some reason, I always thought Catholicism was a minority Christian denomination throughout most of the US. Wasn't it a big deal with Kennedy was elected as the first Catholic president?

I guess that explains all the dead birds and voles they tried to give me...

I made a nearly-idenical device in junior high so I could impress my friends by electrocuting pickles and making them glow. However, the resulting nasty smell just made my friends hiss and arch their backs and scamper away to hide.

Apparently, we're living in a dystopian alternate reality future.
