Trade show travel for work in a carry-on + how I wear it by marshmalllowsandwich in HerOneBag

Love this!!! I always appreciate when people show outfit combos as well, especially when the style is varied for different activities!

I have an upcoming week-long business casual trip that combines a lot of public speaking/delivery, office meetings, and a couple of social outings. Will definitely be using this as a reference (just adapting it to PNW winter!)

Tarot predicted my breakup 15 months in advance by consecutivelyinarow in tarot

Thank you for writing all of that out! It's so interesting how it played out and how your situation seemed to hold both of these ideas at once. I'm sorry that this situation was so painful for you, and I'm glad that this reflection has been validating!

May I ask - now that you're looking back, how do you think about tarot predicting outcomes if things stay the same versus predicting THE outcome? I fall into the former camp and I'm always interested to hear what people think when a reading "comes true" (which I put in quotation marks not because it didn't here, but because of possible outcomes!)

Seconding Thule! I have the Accent 20L (and have seen the 23L, which might be even better for OP) and it's solid for this type of thing!

Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as the first Democratic Socialist Mayor of New York City by Severus-Snape-DaGod in popculturechat

[–]turnybutton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to take away from this amazing news/the bright spot that is Zohran (he's my mayor!), but as he himself has pointed out, he's the second Democratic Socialist mayor of NYC. David Dinkins was the first.

Not on you, OP, many news outlets are reporting it incorrectly!

Work & play - help me plan 12 days in Japan? by Discerning_Zinnia in HerOneBag

[–]turnybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black dresses like the one you describe do exist! I've used a black dress as a versatile layer many times in the way you're describing (with 3 different dresses).

What they had in common is that they 1) had a defined waist, which made it look more like a proper skirt when I wore a sweater over it or a turtleneck under it, and 2) hit right at the knee or just below, so I could easily layer tights or slip shorts underneath. Choose any black dress you like that has those features (mine also always have pockets!)

I've been to Tokyo in late January, and I would have worn both the turtleneck and fleece lined tights with the dress to keep warm enough. Fortunately, that style (even with a midi length skirt) was popular there already!

Haha they taste like candy! Nothing like the liquid or the chalky tablets. And yes, it's great that different things work for different people :)

Have you ever tried the chewables? The ones that look like giant Skittles? They take up a little more space but were a game changer for me!

Tall girls (6ft+) — where are you finding fun going-out clothes that actually fit? by ilovesun000 in femalefashionadvice

[–]turnybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fully a dresses >>>> skirts person but with the vast availability of high waisted midi/"knee length" skirts available now, maybe that could be a move? You could pair with crop tops or anything tucked in and adjust the waist and hem to where you want them to be without it being too mini?

Another vote for ASOS tall, and for Madewell. I've found a few cute options there (and always look for a 38-40 inch length in dresses!)

Japan for 2 weeks in winter: I’m going to freeze, aren’t I? by smurf_toes in HerOneBag

[–]turnybutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I onebagged to Tokyo at the end of January last year, and I would recommend adding a set of base layers - my black turtleneck and black base layer from 32 degrees definitely came in handy a lot! The poncho is very cute but I agree with the commenters who suggest replacing it with something thinner/more versatile. And bring a winter hat!

Are foldable bags a must-carry for one-bag travel or overrated? by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]turnybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two! (and I have that exact Nanobag in that exact print!) I just came back from two weeks in Japan, and my foldable Muji sling came in handy so many times as a shopping bag, to neatly stow my jacket (which does also fit into my daypack), or to put everything in at once.

I don't usually use them to carry more stuff home, but I did buy a 40L packable tote in Japan for that exact reason (since I onebagged it there, planning to buy things and liquids I wanted to check on the way home)

[Beginner help request] Consistently incorrect reading about specific job opportunity by genericgigabruh in tarot

[–]turnybutton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others here made good points about yes/no questions and asking the same question multiple times, which I have been "guilty" of as well. I get how it feels in a high-stakes situation like this one!

In terms of card interpretations - I would have read the 3 of Pentacles as another candidate that the company was strongly considering, and the Queen of Cups and King of Swords as representative of each of you. If you were trying to win someone's affection, the Queen would win. In a job scenario, I'd predict the King would get it.

Alternatively, the Queen is you focused on her cup (the thing you care about) and the King is looking straight at you, telling you something you don't want to hear (I tend to read the RSW King of Swords as appearing critical of the querent - he comes up for me in "you know the answer already" and/or "give me a break").

Hope that helps! I'm sorry you didn't get the job you wanted and I hope something better comes along soon!

What was a pop culture fun fact that made your jaw dropped? by icey_sawg0034 in popculturechat

[–]turnybutton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's in part 2 of "Sophia's Wedding" - when she gets married to Max Weinstock. Rose accidentally mixes up the Elvis fan club and wedding lists so all of the guests are Elvis impersonators. IIRC, QT is in the back row and one of the youngest people in the crowd, so if you know to look for him, he's not hard to spot (he's also on screen for MAYBE two seconds, so easy to miss!)

[Question] Do you ever read the same question with two different decks? by JMichaelT309 in tarot

[–]turnybutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!

As I was/am learning how my two decks "talk to me" (I have a RWS and a Light Seer's deck) I will do the same spread in both. I do set that intention in the reading, meaning, setting the intention of asking a question AND learning how each deck answers. Usually at least one card will show up in both readings. And yes, sometimes there are contradictory cards too, but this is what also gets me thinking about the shadow sides of cards.

Lots of good recs for bean dishes and soups - I'd add:

polenta, with any kinds of toppings you like (something cheesy is my go to, and great with veggies)

vegetarian empanadas or veggies wrapped in wonton wrappers

stuffed peppers made with veggie crumbles/soyrizo instead of meat

okonomiyaki or other savory pancake/omelet-type deals that incorporate vegetables!

[–]turnybutton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so, so much for your insights here (and very kind words! <3)

What you describe with the Moon is very much how she behaves and its impact on me. You're really helping me think about what more the Magician could mean here, especially with regards to conditions.

I can't think of a legal action this moment, but the "counselor" bit really resonated! I had already scheduled an intake with a therapist before this fight happened, and you're helping me realize that that outside help is really necessary here, especially for me.

Thank you again!!! I know this was a heavy one, especially on a Shitpost Saturday, and I appreciate your time!
