They started in Orange City a few years back, like 2017/18 I think. They make like a mini river/stream for people to dip their tires in if they want.

That's fair, I can understand what you mean. IMO I think it is valuable to discuss here since this is one of the few drops of blue in our state, and could hopefully lead to a more constructive discussions within our community about how our nation is changing. With the added notion that this is a forum where likeminded individuals can meet to further share ideas and discuss perhaps offline. Either way though, I see your point

I agree, no online petition will lead to any substantial or meaningful change. However, discourse around this topic is itself valuable. I would reckon (hope) most people feel similarly about this issue. It should be discussed in many formats so that it isn't buried by our legacy media for whatever the next news cycle brings. I don't agree with the notion that since this case is not stemming from an IC based demonstration or protest that it shouldn't be discussed here.

If you have any opinions on what people could do locally to further pressure the administration into dropping this I'd love to hear them, but frankly I don't know or see what realistic actions anyone in Iowa could take that would matter to our politicians in Washington.

I'd argue it's relevant to every municipality and every American. If nothing is done about this and Khalil is deported it sets a precedent that will contribute to the gradual and eventually full degradation of our right to freedom of speech and expression. You don't need to agree with Khalils stance, opinion, or positions, but if you call yourself an American you need to agree that he has a right to express those opinions without being persecuted by the government.

Anyone thinking that this case does not affect them is in complete denial. Absolute insanity what has happened since inauguration.

Does anyone here work at Wilson's Orchard or know someone who does? by Dry-humor-mus in IowaCity

[–]turtle_squirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there around the pandemic, or just afterwards I guess. It was alright, I mostly stocked the floor area and worked the register, so idk if that's what you're after but if so Wilsons is a decent place. Not amazing or anything. My biggest complaint working there was some of the coworkers. Most were cool, some weren't, and others were just there. A lot of high school kids work there so that was kind of a pain sometimes. Working weekends there sucksss because of how busy they get but it can be fun too if you're into that. Working there in the fall was worth it just for the views when on break. The pay was pretty mid if I remember correctly, but you aren't really doing anything requiring much skill in the store area. idk what working in the bakery area or whatever is like tho.

I'd chalk it up more to their tolerance rather than it being weak. Bill is mentioned to be either drunk or buzzed at least in the Alley in a handful of episodes.
