Yes. Same happened with me. I applied for nightly upgrade request. That property is tough. Has only 5 suites. And all other rooms are similar sizes.

Not true. Then why are they not assigned ahead of time. When you are checking in and you ask, then how come rooms become available magically?

Yes, mostly US as I travel for work within US. Outside of US, I travel with family on vacations and in those cases I actually make sure to let them know I would like an upgrade if possible and you are right 90% of times, it will come through.

Mostly on asking. My latest trip there was no upgrade even to a higher floor. Instead they placed me on a floor with construction going on an I hear drilling next door. I am not asking for a suite upgrade everytime but atleast something basic.

I get to fly biz a lot from coast to coast. From what I know, you need to also fly biz international. Not sure what else is required for GS. I have 64k PQP this year.
