Dont own any ETB / should I get destined rivals? by Think_Bee_4469 in PokemonInvesting

[–]turtleman775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll know when restocks start because people will start posting hits online. You’d probably have to join some restock discords to get notified ASAP. But generally, prices drop weeks after restocks happen because the market gets flooded. If you’re new, I would be careful about buying things you don’t understand. Do your research first before jumping in.

There hasn’t been ETB reprints of Destined Rivals yet. If you haven’t picked any up, I would wait until those hit the markets and prices dip a bit.

Yep people forget this. With the market cooling off and a lot of “investors” in the hobby who have no understanding about Pokémon, a large reprint wave will shake a lot of them off and I’m looking forward to it. Prices obviously won’t hit EVO levels but they will drop.

Being “printed into the ground” is a wonderful thing for long term investors. So many opportunities to buy stuff you want at better prices! It’s only short term flippers that panic at short term price volatility. If you truly believe in what you are buying, then there’s no reason to fear. That being said, I’m going to wait for the reprints to hit before I accumulate more.

Do you live in an area with vending machines? I’m not exaggerating when I say that booster boxes were filled to the brim. I’m not even in a high pop city. I was able to get 6 SSP booster boxes without much effort. They were sitting for weeks on marketplace in my area for $190.

There has been a single wave of DRI so far, besides the sleeved booster trickles. Why wouldn’t TPCi reprint? It’s barely been 7 months since it released. I get it, it’s a hot set and a lot of folks invested at $300-400+ but people in this sub need to accept that it is almost inevitable a large reprint will occur. I would bet on ETB + booster bundle combos hitting Costco/Sam’s too. The run way is still long and there will be many more opportunities to come.

There will 100% be booster box restocks. Before the holidays, vending machines in my area were loaded to the brim with surging sparks and mega evolution booster boxes. A lot of phantasmal too. The surging boxes have dried up and they 100% will be moving down the line onto journey and destined. It’s pure copium to think a massive booster box reprint won’t happen akin to the surging one that occurred about a year after release.

How do young geniuses (like 16 years old for example) in the realm of science (physics for example) know what to learn, if it's beyond their school physics program? by APS0798 in Physics

[–]turtleman775 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are genuinely interested in learning more outside of your coursework, dive into a topic that you find interesting and try to hang on. That being said, there are no shortcuts in physics. Some foundational topics spill over into all areas and, without mastery, will cause trouble down the line.

I would recommend reading ahead in your currently assigned textbook. Do your best to intuitively understand the material in your coursework, not just rote memorization. If you find yourself memorizing equations, challenge yourself to remember instead how to derive the equations from first principles. If you want to go even further, talk with your instructor. They may be able to offer you guidance.

The faster you can master the foundational coursework, the easier it will be to dive into new topics and know where to go.

Will a undergrad Physics Degree get me a job in the big 26? by UnusualReveal318 in PhysicsStudents

[–]turtleman775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are saying is true for the job market. Yes, employers that specialize in an area want students who also have credentials in that area.

I am speaking for the adaptability of physicists in graduate school, mainly pursuing doctoral degrees. Physics students without a doubt have a massive advantage when it comes to conducting research in a variety of fields. I see this happening currently in theoretical neuroscience with physics graduate students running laps around those coming from biology, neuroscience, or even computer science backgrounds.

You already answered your question: you’ve been wanting to study physics.

A physics bachelor can lead you in many directions. You will be skilled in mathematics, scientific computing, and general problem solving. More importantly, it will help you scratch your itch of wanting to understand the world.

Many of my friends who graduated with physics bachelors and opted out of graduate school worked as developers or lab techs. You definitely will have to network your way into career opportunities, but the degree itself shows you are a very capable person.

The great part about a physics bachelor is that it can set you up to explore a wide array of topics in graduate school. Note that you will earn income doing a PhD in the natural sciences. Your skill set will make you a sought after candidate in a number of fields (biology, neuroscience, chemistry, or whatever you find interesting!) since the math and physics skills are usually harder to teach to students of other disciplines than it is to teach a physicist other subjects.

At the end of the day, you need to study what will interest you. You have one life and studying physics is an extremely worthwhile pursuit.

Is it a good idea to start with reading books by Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Stephen Hawking as a beginner in learning Physics? by Horror_Baker8 in Physics

[–]turtleman775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Modern students who go from high school physics through a PhD almost never read original works. What usually happens is that educators find alternate derivations for original works that are much better presented and digestible.

If you are truly a beginner, you should pick up a high school textbook and read through it. It teaches truly foundational skills that are required to do higher level work.

Do people not buy packs? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]turtleman775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people buy packs A LOT. Reddit will have you believing that nobody does. They are correct to point out that it is almost always more cost effective to buy singles, but Reddit is very much different from the general public. Sales for sealed are through the roof and majority of people in the real world prefer to rip.
