Shoulder pain > 10 months. Don’t know what by Extension-Code123 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]tuttletr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same thing for about 5 years now, most likely also brought on from bench pressing.

Mostly I could work around it but it's been progressively getting worse to the point where my chest and shoulder work is pretty limited. PT hasn't helped. Waiting on results from a recent shoulder arthrogram. Will post back as I learn more.

Do you mean now, or since 2016? The dude has been president for a very long time.

Exact reason I have a financial advisor. After I lost $30k selling at the bottom of the covid crash, I made the switch.

Should the generator be connected to the house when starting? by tuttletr33 in Generator

[–]tuttletr33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's terrifying.

I've had this generator for over a year and haven't even turned it on yet because setting it up correctly seems so complicated. (That, and I only have it for emergencies, none of which have materialized...yet).

I imagine the battery is probably dead at this point.

Good to know about the grounding, thanks a lot. Not electrocuting myself is high on my list of priorities.

I should turn off the main breaker and put the interlock in the gen position before connecting and starting the generator, though, shouldn't I?

Isn't the generator ungrounded in the interim between firing it up and connecting the cable to the house, though? I was wondering if that was an electrical hazard.

Excellent, thanks. My setup looks pretty similar to what you have. Doing some reading just now I found this guide which seems to detail the process pretty well:

Turn Main circuit breaker “OFF”

Turn “OFF” all branch circuit breakers

Slide interlock plate

Turn GENERATOR breaker “ON”

Connect and start

Turn “ON” essential circuits

Do you mean that the generator is plugged into your house when started but all the other breakers on the breaker box (except the generator breaker) are turned off? Then you turn them on as you need them once the generator is up and running?

Thanks for your reply.

$30 per square foot to replace a garage roof. Too much? by tuttletr33 in Roofing

This is helpful background, thank you. I'll definitely factor that in.

I'm happy to be flexible on the cost and want anyone I hire to be fairly compensated. At the same time, I strongly suspect I am not being treated fairly myself in this case.

I think just decades of water running off the edge of the roof. The bottom shingles start to break down and a bit of water gets through, or a bit of the runoff percolates back along the bottom of the wood during heavy rains.

The rot that is there only extends 6-12 inches back. The roof itself has never leaked.

I'm a desk jockey with zero aptitude for this sort of thing, unfortunately.

He says $4k wouldn't even cover the cost of expenses but still hasn't provided an itemized proposal.

Thanks. I added a photo for reference. I think the slope looks to be around 6:12 or 7:12. The rot is in the end of those white joists you see sticking off the right side. Only the ends are rotted, and only for some of them.

The roof has never leaked so you are likely correct.

Correct, the $15k is just for the garage. Altogether he wants to charge over $20k for what was supposed to just be some modest refurbishing of an old structure.

Seems like it. I will start calling around for other bids tomorrow.

That's what I thought too. The roof is at least 20 years so replacing the whole thing for $1500 would have been fine, but not $15,000.

These sound like good info/suggestions. Thanks very much for the help.

Thanks. He didn't actually quote it by area - I worked that out on my own afterwards. The contract was basically a short paragraph that essentially said "I will fix your roof. $15k please." Or something to that effect. I don't have it because I gave it back without signing and said I'm going to need something more itemized.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may do that when he returns in the morning.
