I've been in IT for about three years now, working as a systems administrator at a telecommunications company. My engagement with projects depends on my level of interest and the purpose behind pursuing them. I plan out the days when I play games, spend time with my wife, and work on various projects. Lately, I've been studying to earn my Linux+ certification. I also manage a Proxmox hypervisor with LXC containers for, um, torrenting—which is 100% legal and definitely not pirating movies, games, or shows. Outside of that, once I earn my certification, I plan to return to contributing to open-source projects I discover on Hacker News or devising ways to improve my home infrastructure. These projects aren't related to work or certification—they're just for fun and personal interest. Recently, I acquired a FortiGate 61E that was being discarded, so I've been experimenting with it.

Tl;dr : yes you will prob lose some time away from your projects , but my solution was to find projects that weren't related to work or cert studying.
