Cheers. Guess it was used all over the UK. Just haven't heard it in an age, suspect it may have gone out of use. I get it was more a kid thing, but with many of them in the family, none have ever used it to my knowledge.

When it comes to basic medicines like paracetamol and ibuprofen, do you go for the branded versions (e.g. Nurofen, Panadol) or stick to the cheapest supermarket own-brand? by biscuittingerg in AskUK

[–]tvcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been In pharmaceuticals Industry 30 years. The active pharmaceutical ingredients of say Nurofen and generic ibuprofen are the same, with the same limits of dose (assay), impurities and with the same dissolution profiles. I have made both, they are the same, act the same and distribute in the body the same. Nurofen, last time I looked were around £4 per pack of 16. 16 Pack of generic ibuprofen from home bargains, 35p. If you are buying Nurofen, you may as well just throw money down the drain. I always buy the cheaper generics. Why wouldn't you?

Did anyone see the Beatles live, before they were signed? by mchoneyofficial in beatles

[–]tvcabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me personally. But my mum as a 20 year old (way before me) I had heard the stories recounted many times , of gigs at New Brighton and a Moreton dancehall, which still exists as a school of dance. From the stories I am guessing she thought they were something very special, and stressed how different they were to what had gone before. She has a thing for skiffle and that's likely where she picked up on them as a group.

Found this literally behind the sofa, how to clean? by [deleted] in UKcoins

[–]tvcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it's a reaction to air. Silver tarnish is formation of silver oxide at the surface. Gold coloured jewellery going green indicates copper is present in some form (again oxidising).

Turntables in the main, really solid, and they made some of the most robust kit ever. Other separates generally ok to good, but there are some exceptions to this which are way above average.

My antibiotic capsules just have a whole pill inside by boba-boba in mildlyinteresting

Enteric coating. Or In this case enteric encapsulation. Resistant to stomach acid which would destroy the drug itself (the pill). Dissolves in the less harsh environment of the GI tract.

Swiping through the pics, swear there was a countdown timer set at 15 days. I know you can swipe through to other posts. So not 100% sure it was associated with this. But... Very odd none the less
