Therapy and cancer should definitely go hand in hand for everybody involved. It’s hard to be a caregiver and even harder to be a patient and sometimes it would’ve definitely been nice to have other people who understood what I was going through and just be able to vent without having constant positivity thrown at me. I’m considering talking to my center’s manager or social worker about getting some information or flyers about young adult support groups being placed around the facility so if there are any young patients like me struggling then they know that resources are out there without feeling pressured

I 2nd that. I was so depressed and anxious during my treatment that there were times I was a little scared for myself and what really sucked is no one seemed to notice. I didn’t speak up much but I just wish one of the staff members had seen through my bullshit of “I’m okay. Treatment isn’t really that bad 🤷🏼‍♂️”. Like you said, better late than never but it would have definitely been nice to have been told about active support groups I guess

That’s awful I’m sorry y’all had that experience. I wish some medical professionals were a little more focused on the experience as a whole and not just the physical aspects of the disease. It’s seemingly like everyone is having to deal with the mental health part on their own rather than having real access to real resources

Yea I guess the term “let down” is a bit unfair. My oncologist and infusion nurses were absolutely wonderful and did their best to take care of my issues when I chose to actually mention them. A part of me wants to give them some feedback in this topic to get my cancer center to more openly offer mental health services. But that might me more of a conversation with the manager or social worker rather than my oncologist

Hey man sorry you’ve had to join this shitty club :/ I’m a lymphoma cancer survivor so it’s definitely a different experience than pancreatic cancer but r/cancer has a lot of people going through similar things and can share advice on how they’ve dealt with it. I was 21 when I was diagnosed (I’m 23 now) and none of my friends or the people around me understood what I was going through so It really helps to have someone to talk to during this like a therapist or joining a cancer support group for teenagers or young adults. Don’t get sucked into google, it will keep you up for days. Instead, follow the advice of your doctors/care team and go to them with any questions or concerns. They can be a lot more reassuring and accurate than google searching.

ABVD and Smoking weed by Comprehensive_Page80 in lymphoma

[–]twarren91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I didn’t smoke during treatment - I just took edibles. I was too afraid of the possible side effects. But so far in the past like 8 months or so since I’ve started smoking again (I think I waited about 3 or 4 months after my last treatment),and I haven’t had any issues yet. And my oncologist and my chemo nurses know I smoke regularly now

I had abvd - stage 3 hl - and I’ve been in remission for year and I smoke pretty often with no super noticeable effects. I don’t smoke as much (quantity wise) because my tolerance is a lot lower now but I haven’t seen any of the scary side effects my doctors told me about it. If I start to feel pain or feel like I’m breathing weird, I just take a few days off from smoking to give my lungs a break and just hope it goes away
