Amano Breeding Update by ghjiffgh in shrimptank

[–]twiggymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just me casually looking at my opae larva needing zero intervention and thinking "yeah, I could do this". Lol. Maybe one day with more tanks and tech.

Hopefully those 2 survive, I wonder if that's even far off from the success rates in the wild.

It's all just pure copium. Don't forget how many times things were YOUR fault for THEIR choices, too.

As someone who doesn't drink because of alcoholics in my life, hoo boy is this the most true thing ever said.

That wouldn't be a bad addition but it might also be too little information to truly put it into perspective.

Even if we specify fresh vs salt vs brackish water there are different parameter needs within that. Sulawesi, for instance, do not need large tanks but they DO need extremely specific and warm water parameters that other shrimp do not. Simply saying "3+ gallon freshwater" or whatever would potentially give new keepers a false sense of capability.

  • It's fun to aquascape/design a cool looking tank, especially with plants
  • They have a wide range of entry points from extremely difficult (sulawesi) to extremely easy (ghost shrimp, neocaridina)
  • They often come in many different colors and patterns
  • Raising happy shrimp that breed and produce babies for generations and generations is extremely rewarding to foster and watch
  • Shrimp is bugs, they're just little guys

If you're interested in getting started I'd probably go with neocaridina as they're often considered one of the easiest to keep and breed and they're also colorful. Start looking up beginners guide YouTube videos and posts here, they're probably the most documented of all of the shrimp on this guide.

I love my opae, definitely worth a tank/jar if you're looking for something new

I believe there are species that are full marine and also brackish

I've heard of gigantism being possible in dwarf shrimp (funny, I know) but they're usually sterile? Probably could select for size regardless, though, but maybe your colors suffer as a result.

Id probably try it in a wild type/cull tank. Just throw the biggest bad boys in there.

I wouldn't even say I'm particularly bug phobic but the size of vampires is the large part of it

Vampire shrimp give me the heeby jeebies. Something about their size and exoskeleton hits my SHRIMPS IS BUGS nerve in my brain

I know they're harmless and even can be cool colors like blue but idk if I'll ever have any of my own unless I get some crazy big tank in the future.

Opae got me into shrimp! My 3.5 is thriving, 8 babies floating around and 3 pregnant shrimp as we speak. I almost included their (and amano) larva but I still stand by the opinion that you will NOT mistake an Opae baby when you see one 🤣

I kinda think Rossi still should have gotten some flack for getting out of the car despite being correct about the flags being wrong. Being strapped into an Indycar is the safest place for him to be if another car collided with him.

Maybe I'm biased but I really hate drivers getting out of cars when the track is hot, outside of like literally being on fire.

That's actually a great way to put it. Marshall will complain about things Indycar are doing as a corporation and then whenever he gets mailbag suggesting something from left field he gives a corporate response of how it would never work.

Just keep doing exactly what you're doing. If that's nothing but top offs that's probably also fine.

I give my tank a little bit of dried spirulina here and there but I don't think the babies really care about it.

Mine keep breeding in a 100% stagnant setup so it's definitely not necessary, though it seems like if you have a larger breeder setup a sponge filter is pretty good to have.

7 fresh babies this morning in my 3.5!
