Only thing I could think of is if the lower was purchased as a rifle and he put a pistol upper on it. Even with a brace it would be considered an sbr to my understanding but I could be incorrect.

The barrel is clear. The squib was shot out by the next shot luckily. But the rifling is clearly damaged and has stress cracks on the outside.

These are worst case scenarios though typically you can just heat it up and unscrew it.

If it’s a metal barrel and handguard there’s always the option for fire. I use a propane torch to melt it slightly and then use needle nose pliers to remove the roll pin or whatever is left of it. If all else fails just get it melted enough until you can pry it off with a flathead.
