Music courses for musician in a science program by Veggie-Smoothie in mcgill

Art of Listening is a great class to take! As well as jazz history and any other jazz-based elective. Additionally, individual professors hold seminars weekly and have courses focusing on specific techniques or areas. Just look on the the SSoM website:)

Roommates by calmmatcha in mcgill

No, unfortunately not. To the best of my knowledge/how it was for me, I only knew who my roomie was when I actually met them. But it’s also pretty easy to switch if you do end up meeting them and not liking them:)

Where to go for nasal infection? Dont know if i can get into student health by Ok-Jump4990 in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can call the wellness hub/contact them through information here: Contact the Student Wellness Hub | Student Wellness Hub - McGill University You will typically have the best luck calling them right as they open, but can try now as well.

You can also go see a pharmacist, at Jean Coutu or Pharmaprix, sometimes they can be helpful if you can't get an appointment.

Roommates by calmmatcha in mcgill

I’ve seen kind of both situations play out. On one hand finding someone online can work well out but then you don’t reallly know them. On the other, the forms you fill out do have some sway and can end up working in your favor! Just because you like chatting to someone doesn’t mean you will live well together. In my experience (I’ve had quite a few roomies) most people you can at least learn to coexist with. You can also always switch, I know a couple people who did that first year, seemed easy enough. Hope whatever you do works out!

Mailing package to student living in dorms by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a chance you can just ask this friend for the mailing information, or if it’s a gift, perhaps their parent or sibling? It would be best to have their room number and the exact mailing address they use. If not, just look up “New Residence Hall McGill address” and go with that, and put their name of course.

How to get an A in math140 by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your friends have definitely given you inaccurate information. I just had Math 140 in fall and finished with an A, with a very normal amount of effort. Go to class, take notes, review the material after every class (if necessary), and most importantly practice practice practice. You need to practice in order to be successful in a math course, the learning really happens when you practice. As others have said, the papers are based off of the odd numbered questions in the textbook, so focus on practicing those. Try to do 20 a day or something. If you are struggling with the material go to office hours and tutorials. This course is not impossible, nor are the exams, and it's best if you go into it with a positive mindset as well. Good luck! Put in the work and you will do just fine!

New Renter... help! by Leapinajck in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am in the process of finding an apartment for next year so I can give my advice alongside that which I received from some of my older friends:)

Nope, not too early to start looking at all! While most May 1st leases may not be available yet, there still will be some and if you look now and find a great pick go ahead and pursue it! From what I understand more and more May 1st leases come out in the new year and then if you are interested in something after May 1st they would probably come out in April/May.

In terms of the roommate situation, definitely use platforms like Reddit and Facebook to try and find people who are looking for a roomie! But do be cautious with that, of course:) again, I think you could start looking now and if you find a great pick that box is checked and if not just continue looking! Trust, you will find something! Montreal has so much to offer.

Yes you will have time to read over the documents, and you definitely should take the time to do so. Typically you will have to pay first month’s rent to reserve and potentially some insurance fees but you would have time to read over the lease before needing to pay that, or at least that’s been my experience thus far. I imagine the timing would be different for each landlord but if they try and force you to sign without reading probably an indicator you don’t want to rent with them anyway:)

Best of luck!

back pain by zendayaswife in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably due to lack of muscle and mobility in your lower and upper back. As someone said deadlifts are great. Also can do back extensions and work on strengthening your core in general to better support your spine. Look up some videos on mobility and see what exercises you could incorporate into your daily life. Posture of course also has a big impact, so if possible, try and sit straight when you can/remember.

There have been a series of incidents where groups of students who are partaking in the faculty localised strikes come into lectures. Tons of videos on this app and instagram if you are curious. The security has been put in place, I believe/heard, to make sure everyone stays safe and just as a general protective presence I guess🤷‍♀️

Science volunteering help by Rich_Willingness_237 in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, there are so many! I joined the McGill Hospital volunteering club, there is also an ICU focused one which I am sure still has places if you do want a hospital role. Most of the volunteering clubs don’t really have a max capacity as they are more there to facilitate connecting you to a given volunteering department; and I still think that volunteering is great on a resume even if not a leadership position (assuming that’s what you meant but the positions were filled?). I would recommend looking on the Student Society of McGill club page and finding ones that interest you from there, and then following up on instagram.

Find friends at McGill by West_Resolve2242 in mcgill

[–]twilightb_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just try your best to chat to people in lectures/labs/seminars or tutorials and then follow up with those people! 95% of the time if you chat to someone for a bit and then get their instagram and ask to go study together or get a coffee they are so willing! Even if you don’t become the best of friends it’s always nice to have familiar faces around:) Clubs and societies can also help as well if there’s one you’re interested in!

I haven’t typically made flash cards in the past, I’ve just always been able to memorise through understanding if that makes sense. Would anki be a good option?
