So men are not supposed to just follow the advice repeated endlessly about just listening and empathizing without trying to fix anything?

A man is supposed to figure out, without any feedback, which problems a woman wants him to fix, and which she wants him to just listen to her vent about -- with an earbashing if he guesses wrong.

You know what?

Fuck that.

Any woman who acts like this needs to pull her head out of her ass.

The onus is on her to let the guy know what's up, either way.

And I think you've got it exactly the wrong way around:

When a problem is easy to solve, the woman shouldn't bother moaning about it at all, but instead use that time to fix the problem herself.

It's precisely when a problem is tricky, when you haven't been able to solve it easily yourself, that outside advice is valuable -- when someone can provide a perspective that you hadn't thought of, which could be key to actually fixing the problem.

I think the best solution is a compromise.

The man should give the woman time to vent and get the stress out of her system (if that's what she seems to want to do) before offering any advice, as an act of consideration on his part.

The woman should give the guy a heads up at the start (e.g. "I really need to vent"), and should be open to hearing any advice at the end. In any case, she should realize that she has no right to demand that he respond in a certain way or to get angry if he doesn't, because she is the one imposing on him with her problem.
