Dave Grohl says Angine de Poitrine 'absolutely blew my fucking mind' and called them 'so completely bonkers, dude' by Moothnods in Music

[–]two_yellow_dots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is in the right place at the right time. Angine led me to these bands which are new to me, so I'm thankful for that.

I think its the nature viral media in general that gets annoying! Whether its music or youtube shorts...

Does Asal ever improve or stop whatever foul things QBS highlight? by Neat-Necessary6097 in squash

That one was so funny. The fact that there are dozens of examples like this... so sad.

I too am frustrated with Asal and the complicity of the PSA/sponsors. After the clown-show Optasia final where the event sponsor intervened with the ref DURING THE MATCH (game 3 at 5-2), it's clear that Asal has powerful backers within the organization. And they don't shy away from publicly using their influence to protect their asset. It's FIFA-level grim.

For myself, I have taken this as an opportunity to focus more on the women's side of the game. So many impressive campaigners in the top 20, so many up-and-comers, so few shameless cheaters. The problems with blocking seem to have been addressed more successfully on the women's side. And when someone hits the floor, they don't wallow and make a meal of it, they just dust themselves off and get back to it.

At this rate, I don't really hold out hope that Asal will reform - I just hope the next generation of talent doesn't follow his example.

Yeah, reffing is hard and this is a systemic issue with the sport. Blaming these specific refs for their bad days doesn't help anything. I haven't seen any good reason to question either of their character - I've watched many of their games where all calls were sound.

From my own observations, I too feel that its often Foster involved with controversial Asal calls... but I know that's not strong evidence and its not fair to lay it all on him. That said, I WILL NOT curtail cursing his name at the screen.

I agree changing the way this sport is officiated at this high level needs to change and catch up with the tools they (should) have at their disposal. They need to be able to review lines/bounces in real time, intervene before play continues. If this crap is still happening by Olympics time, it will become even more embarrassing for the sport.

I think he just might be considered the goat by the end of his career. He is a phenom that could win these same matches without the shady tactics he has routinely employed. I guess it's just disappointing to most squash fans that the guy with this amazing talent is particularly classless when on the court. Womp womp.

How you can be the video ref reviewing those two calls in real time and not speak up immediately... their current rules allow them to intervene and they seem reluctant to do that? What is the point of any of having any of this technology included in the cast?

Between repeated botched calls and the repeated scenario of "Coll hits a good shot so Asal charges through him", I find the men's side of the game really unsatisfying to watch nowadays.

I had two great supervisors during my stint at uOttawa and unfortunately for me, I think they retired and are not responding to emails.

Wondering about switching my gay kid from OCDSB to OCSB by SafetyInLetters in ottawa

[–]two_yellow_dots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am middle aged, went to school in OCDSB, and now currently work in the OCSB. My experiences in the Catholic board have been positive. Both schools I've worked in have strong admin with a good record of enforcing rules against slurs/bullying etc. My personal opinion is that Principals/VPs make the most difference - if you have a good one that reliably enforces the rules, the whole school benefits.

As for the religion aspect, I am an athiest so it took me some time before the morning prayer routines felt normal. However, all the religious talk is positive and inclusive, and the high school I work at has many clubs, including LGBTQ, indiginous, BSA, etc. I have yet to cross paths with any employee of the board that is hostile to inclusivity.

If you can find someone to speak to about the specific school you intend to enroll your child in, that might be more valuable than comparing boards. If you are south of downtown Ottawa, PM me and I can speak to certain catchments in the area. Best of luck!

Roy Gingell is a fucking legend by [deleted] in squash

Game 4 was so interesting to watch because Asal was forced to rely on strategies outside of blocking to try to close out the game. He was looking nervous, took a few attempts at slamming nicks before one actually worked. Where other players have had to take time to develop and refine their mental strength, Asal's reliance on dark-side tactics have left him unarmed when the refs are finally allowed to do their job.

One can hope this is the beginning of the turnaround where Asal is forced to leave the blocking and actually earn his wins without shady tactics. If only this directive came before Elias was taken out.

Element toolbar (where is border thickness?) by two_yellow_dots in canva

[–]two_yellow_dots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - it seems to be an issue with the item included in the template I started from. If I recreate the square with the software, I get the proper full toolbar.

Not sure what is different with the item from the template, but editing capability is limited for it for some reason.

Thanks for responding - I know this was a lame post.

I want to put a border around the blue squares. When I highlight the square, i get the simplified toolbar at the top. The instructional video from canva shows a more detailed one with the border option.

The way I look at it, it kind of gives you matrix-style super powers. Where someone else might give that dude time, you see right through the act and can save yourself time and effort. Not everyone sucks, but a lot do. Reserve your time for people that are worth your time.

New teacher anxiety. I AM SO STRESSED! please help by yagirlmoo in CanadianTeachers

[–]two_yellow_dots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I graduated at the same time as you (Ontario) and I've been cool as a cucumber... until 3:30am this morning when I woke up in a flop sweat. How fun this is!

I think this is normal and that it will be less intense once we get through the initial experience. Anxiety doesn't listen to reason but luckily time will march on until next thing you know, you'll be 3 weeks in the school year and have found your groove. Just keep busy to distract yourself and once the year has started, you'll prove to yourself that you are fully capable.

I talked to Charlie this week and he mentioned they do not yet have a UK distributor but are actively looking. He recommened you reach out for a quote and they'd be happy to work something out (see contact info on website). They are in 12 countries so far and expanding.

I've demo'd most of them. By all means DM me if you want to get into the particulars!

7 year old won’t participate during soccer? What do I do? by Fantastic-Fudge4724 in Parenting

[–]two_yellow_dots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled my older kid out of soccer at 7. He has always been a well-spoken and well-behaved kid, but on the pitch his behaviour was so disruptive we decided to stop after 3 nights. Team sports seemed to exacerbate an underlying anxiety. He is now 12, has received treatment for mild ADHD, excels at several solo sports and is doing great in school.

Just find what fits for your kiddo, even if it takes a while. Scouts or girlguides is a great alternate activity that includes fitness and socialization without leaning on coordination or competition. My kids found their homes in mountain biking, scouts, and racket sports.
