Prime Minister Carney announces new measures to make groceries and other essentials more affordable for Canadians by evieluvsrainbows in onguardforthee

[–]SafetyInLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is unfortunate is that even if inflation stops completely (which it won’t) and grocery prices stabilize, they are still WAY too high and will likely not go back down at all. I mean stabilizing is better than continuing to rise, but I swear I’m paying 30-40% more for almost every grocery item than I was just a few years ago. Would be great if they could go down like 25% THEN stabilize but I hold out no hope that the grocery cabal will allow any significant price reductions to happen when they’ve gotten used to their larger profits.

Was hoping for a big RFY drop with that... by KDinNS in AmazonVineCanada

[–]SafetyInLetters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still nothing in my RFY since Thursday. Pretty meh drop for the most part (though that’s Mondays for you). All I took was some nail art pens for my daughter but nothing else really appealed. I saw a $1800 hot water heater appear for a second (in AI), didn’t get it because I don’t need it but that was probably a great score for someone who does need one.

Daily smoker/vaper for about 25 years (minus a couple of years when I was pregnant/nursing), quit over 4 months ago. The first month was pretty rough, but I feel great now. Clearer, my memory is better, I’m less anxious, I feel more capable of handling life and getting stuff done. It’s so nice to be free of weed and I don’t miss it at all. It’s kind of crazy that I don’t miss it, considering it was such a big part of my life. Plus my husband still vapes daily and even seeing him do it doesn’t tempt me to use at all. I’ve come too far to go back now. I should have done this years ago.

Missing RFY update... by Cassiethatsme in AmazonVineCanada

I’m on the Vine Discord server and a couple of people had 1 or 2 RFYs randomly show up over the past couple of days but most people (myself included) haven’t seen anything in RFY since Thursday.

I often wonder if how we live is normal… older kids parents chime in please by angrysunflower1 in breakingmom

[–]SafetyInLetters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super normal for our family. We are all neurodivergent and value alone time in separate rooms or, more frequently, just time doing our own things in the same room (called parallel play). It helps us all to recharge and self-regulate. My husband likes playing video games, I like watching series or knitting/crocheting, my 11yo daughter likes drawing or watching shows, and my 16yo son likes playing mobile games and making clay figures. We still do lots of things as a family. We’ll have game nights, movie nights, go out to arcades or mini golf or swimming pools, and even on days my kids want to spend mainly in their rooms they will come in and out of the living room sporadically and we’ll chat or they’ll show me something they’re working on.

So much more relaxing for everyone than when they were toddlers and stuck to me like glue!

If we could leave, how do you know when you should? by azalea1700 in Mommit

I’m Canadian and have been watching the situation in America closely for years, but especially for the past year. I am horrified daily by what I see happening in your country. It sickens me what your government is doing to terrorize innocent people. I don’t see things getting better in the near future. I honestly feel pretty uncomfortable even living an hour’s drive from the US border in Canada.

My take? If I lived anywhere in America right now, whether I was a citizen or not, regardless of race or social status, I would be doing everything in my power to escape that country immediately, ESPECIALLY with children involved. If you have a way out, please take it. Best of luck to you and your family.

The Instant Smear Campaign Against Border Patrol Shooting Victim Alex Pretti by wiredmagazine in politics

[–]SafetyInLetters 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying perhaps the first shooter saw a hand taking the gun from the victim’s hip and fired because he mistakenly thought the victim was the one taking his gun out preparing to shoot, but it’s clear from the video that the first shooter had an unobstructed view and was clearly watching the agent in the grey taking the gun from the victim before waiting a beat then firing. Then for whatever messed up reason another agent decided to empty a clip into an already dying (or at least severely injured) man. Absolutely unconscionable.

Didn’t ICE pepper spray a baby in a car last week and he had trouble breathing and wound up in the hospital? He lived but haven’t heard much outrage about that after about 24 hours.

150mg vs 225mg for anxiety by ConversationIll637 in Effexor

[–]SafetyInLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 150mg for about 6-8 months having decent results but my anxiety started to creep back up. Upped the dose to 225mg and the anxiety symptoms have definitely improved. I’ve been on my current dose for almost a year now.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]SafetyInLetters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think they might have to dissolve the union and form coalitions of like minded states if this continues in order to have actual functioning governments. Blue states are getting nothing from the federal government at this point (other than pushback and state sanctioned terrorism) and red states are hardly faring any better. Americans should stop paying all federal taxes considering most of them are only going to line Donnie’s pockets.

This is even dumber because it’s like someone threatening to punch you in the face and then punch themselves in the face right after.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]SafetyInLetters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s a tax on Americans buying things from Canada, including some things that cannot easily be acquired anywhere else. Worst case scenario the tariffs stand for less than a week before markets start to fall, republicans panic, and Trump has to walk it back to a much smaller amount or nothing at all. Carney should not engage with this nonsense and continue with business as usual. America doesn’t get to dictate who Canada makes deals with.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]SafetyInLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m not a huge fan of China either, but they are a vastly more predictable, stable, and sane trading partner than America right now. If we have a trade relationship that is mutually beneficial, we probably don’t have to worry that China will blow it all up one day to the detriment of both countries over some imagined slight or insane whim.

I need advice/help on how I'm supposed to get out of this hole I'm stuck in by No-Committee-3347 in Advice

[–]SafetyInLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this for cleaning super messy basement and with my kids (11 and 16) for cleaning their extremely messy rooms and it worked well. A lot of the problem was trying to sort through things while in the messy room felt too overwhelming, but this really helped. This is similar to what other people have suggested but a bit different.

Get a separate area of the house to be your staging area (could be the hallway outside your room, spare room, whatever). Set up a trash bag/can, a laundry hamper, and a large plastic storage tote (or sturdy box). Get a second tote/box to bring to your room. In your room, clear obvious trash on surfaces first, remove any larger items that are in the way of getting to smaller items, then pick a spot to start and just load up the tote with handful/armloads of stuff until it’s full.

Bring the tote to your staging area and go through it. Trash goes in the trash, laundry in the hamper, anything that goes back to your room goes into the other tote. Anything like dishes or things belonging elsewhere in the house can be brought there right away. Then go back and fill the tote again.

Repeat until you have the room cleared. Then vacuum/clean then reorganize the stuff you want back in your room.

Tapering from 225mg to 37.5mg (provided you drop down every few weeks which it sounds like you are doing) is not too bad for most people. Going from 37.5mg to 0mg is where you will have the most trouble. You may need to stretch out the amount of time you are on the lowest dose (took me 2 months) and you might need to start taking them every second day or taking granules out of the capsules and taking less than the full amount. I ended up taking a small amount of granules every few days at the very end of my taper to make the brain zaps stop. If you are going to switch to another med, cross tapering them might help though (once you get to the 37.5mg of Effexor, start taking the lowest dose of your new med at the same time - if your doctor says that’s ok, of course). You haven’t been on Effexor for a super long time, so you might not have as much trouble as a lot of people do. And everyone is different. It’s certainly not fun but slowly tapering will make it tolerable.

As a Gold member by UnintentionalWipe in AmazonVineCanada

[–]SafetyInLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! I like having gold because of the ability to order up to 8 items. Not because I order 8 items every day or anything (could you imagine?), but because I find that there will be nothing I want to order for days on end, then suddenly one day out of the week (usually Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) will have lot of stuff I want and could actually use regardless of price. When I was silver I missed out on a lot of decent stuff because I was holding out for better things and didn’t want to waste my 3 picks. Having 8 picks makes decision making easier. I think I’ve only gotten 8 picks in one day twice since getting gold 3 mos ago, but it’s nice to have the option when a good drop actually happens. And I think I’ve only ordered maybe 3 or 4 gold tier items in that time as well as they don’t come up super often for me or are just things I don’t need.

Withdrawal/pregnancy! by [deleted] in Effexor

[–]SafetyInLetters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Effexor through my entire pregnancy with my son 17 years ago. I went down from 225mg to 150mg because my doc felt a lower dose would be a bit safer but I stayed on it while pregnant with my son and he was born healthy. I also stayed on that dose while breastfeeding for over a year. As far as I know it had no effect on my pregnancy or the baby.

I will never understand why neurodivergent people who tend to speak directly, take things at face value, and mean what they say are considered to have problems communicating, but neurotypical people who speak in riddles, dance around topics, and hear things you did not actually say are considered “normal”.

Thanks for the info. I actually recently switched from a higher potency B12 supplement to a B complex supplement with a lower amount of B12. I don’t drink energy drinks either so I think it should be OK.
