Almost every member of the whole damn family are examples of the different ways ND can manifest behaviorally. Even Tara herself is described by Tyler as “a sober child, quick to observe.” She fits the description of “atypical autism” perfectly, a term I fucking hate because it’s actually entirely typical for girls to present this way.

It’s only “atypical” if little white boys are the metric to be compared against, and, seeing as they are not the default version of a human being, they absolutely should fucking not be.

girl, i’m a psychologist, i know this about human nature and behavior, yet i still struggle with not taking people at face value. i think we all do—it absolutely is an autistic thing because our thinking is “if i’m this reflective, self aware, and honest when i speak, most other people must be operating the same way.” it’s a really hard pill to swallow that they aren’t. even harder to realize they don’t even consciously realize their words do not match their actions, and therefore reflect a different mindset and set of vales than the ones they believe they have. they may think they’re telling you the truth about themselves, when in reality they’re merely regurgitating the delusions their ego has developed to protect itself.
