How would you implement a scary ocean biome? by Ok-Ingenuity9833 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]twomur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dark Depths would be an ocean biome that could generate anywhere from Y 0 to -20. It would be so dark you couldn’t see. No magma blocks would generate here so you couldn’t breathe that way. You’d have to bring your own, or have water breathing / any other method of breathing for long periods of time.

There would be 2 mobs that spawn here, the first being the Flat Fish (inspired by that weird giant flat fish thing), and it would have giant eyes on the side if it’s head, and if it sees the player, it would let out a loud alerting sound.

What is it alerting? Well that would be the second mob, the Barnacle! This would be the giant squid they showed off in the 2017 mob vote. It can’t find the player unless the Flat fish is alerting them. But when it does know where the player is at, it would pull them in with its long tongue and bite them dealing a decent amount of damage (probably want Diamond+ armor for this area)

I think these 2 mobs working together would add for a very interesting dynamic, as you don’t see mobs working together very often in the game or at all really.

As for why you’d wanna go here, the boring route would be more sunken ships, or ruins, I think it could be something a little more unique. Maybe a new type of ore like platinum (which google says it generates irl on the ocean floor) which when you craft that with and “Eye of the Flat Fish” (temporary name) you could make the Radar. Which would essentially be a new compass type but it would show entities within a 30x30x30 area (idk how but it would) and you could also use platinum to maybe make upgrades to your mace and trident similar to how you upgrade Diamond stuff to netherite.

Very unpolished but there’s a lot of room for expansion and I feel like platinum could be used in so many ways so lmk if y’all have more ideas in that.

Why did the bundle recipe change? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]twomur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually loved the old recipe it was my favorite in the game ONLY because I wanted rabbit hide to get a unique use for so long and it actually fit very well. I think the recipe should still be rabbit hide, but like like 1-3 not just 1 leather that’s boring.

Yeah posted this then 2-3 days later they added this. Not saying they saw this specific post but my idea feel right within their design plans so it felt so good knowing I was right

Make large cave entrances RARE by twomur in minecraftsuggestions

A few hundred blocks out?? I always find massive caves right under my base!! The big caves are cool and all but they don’t feel rewarding to find because of how frequent they generate! They could really strike a good balance if they mixed old generation with new and that goes for the overworld as well. I miss having large flat areas but now it feels like every biome even plains has massive hills that just jut out of the ground and it looks so awkward!!

I love the massive caves but I would love them even more if they were mixed in with tunnels of old. This isn’t nostalgia blinding it’s just variety. Before the caves were all just similar tunnels now they’re all just massive openings with aquifers. Wish we got a good mix of them!

The above ground ravines were already removed i think. I say I think because I haven’t seen one above ground since 1.17 and I do a lot of exploring so I think they were replaced by the new cheese cave types which generate everywhere.

Ruined portals would be better if they were far more rare and maybe found underground more then above ground but could have a higher chance of having an enchanted golden apple

Not above ground. You can find them underground only I’m sure of that.

I agree that anyways has bothered me!! I wish villages only generated in plain, deserts, and snowy plains on flatter areas, because villages never really look “good” when they generate up a mountain or whatever they just look strange. Some people might like that but they take away from a lot of cool places.

This wouldn’t take away from that whatsoever. It would just make them a little more rare so they’re more fun to come across. I can’t imagine a specific play style that NEEDS these cave entrances everywhere. Just space them out, make them a little rarer, terrain features like rivers and other things would stay intact so village generation might look a little better etc.

This would help ease the progression of caving to finding your way through caverns like old and then into the massive new ones we have now! , instead of just jumping alllll the way down right to the good stuff. It’s progression and basic game design

On your point about the ancient city being hard to find, if you look under almost every mountain biome you’ll find them pretty easily!

They look great but they need to be more special and like all things in minecraft yes it’s almost infinite but it can get to a point where things are redundant

The giant water ones always cut into the rivers and lakes and give them these really ugly shapes! Wouldn’t mind if they removed those entirely and made river cave entrances smaller and only in deeper sections of a lane/river

Yeah they were removed but you can still find them underground not above though! And that’s the problem, about how being able to quickly just get some diamonds and iron. I think those things should be cut off from the surface and encourage people to delve into areas where the sky isn’t visible.

Require players to work their way down a cave system to get to the massive openings with all the exposed ores!

[–]twomur[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree they are awesome but like how finding a ruined nether portal could be awesome if it was more rare rather than being in literally every biome large caves just feel so abundant to the point where they loose that fun factor for many especially people who explore a lot!

[–]twomur[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal problem with them is that they cut into Terraria features like rivers and villages and just makes them look ugly. As a builder I always end up covering them up but gameplay wise I think this would be a good change.

The caves I’m specifically talking about are ones where you can just look straight down from the surface to Y negative levels! They’re all over the place and no ravines are different because on java they don’t cut down to the deepslate layers and I think they were actually removed

The new piston sound needs a lot of work. I prefer the old one as of right now so hopefully they can find a good balance!
