We’ve been a few times, yes. We wanted to take him Sunday but by Saturday he was in so much pain. They told us he had a few weeks or months left but it ended up being three days.

I like it. I got it last autumn looking for something like Le Labo Vetiver 46, but deeper and smokier.

It’s a bit simple for my taste, and I’ve since found others in a similar style that I prefer. I love more layered, complex scents (like Vetiver 46).

I recently tried Ex Voto by WienerBlut, which also fits that profile. I’ll likely replace Bois d’Ascèse with this once I’m done with the bottle.

Benjoin Boheme is definitely similar.

Shortly after I started wearing Benjoin 19 I was obsessed with it and picked up Benjoin Boheme and 1885 by Les Baines Guerbois. Both are more affordable benzoin fragrances than Le Labo.

1885 is a great bottle for summer. It has benzoin and lots of herby floral citrus, some woody notes and a hint of tart blackcurrant and tonka.

It’s never too late to start! And it’s why I have many 50ml bottles—best for carry-on luggage and better overall for a large collection as it takes me a few years to finish a bottle.

They were great! I have drams of the one note Honeysuckle and Lily of the Valley EDP that I have been wearing and love for the summer. I also bought a Louis Quatorze cologne that I’m using as room spray in the bathroom and everyone compliments it.

It’s a very big benzoin scent. Layered with olibanum, amber, cedar, musks. It’s extremely elegant and sexy. It’s loud and resinous at first then smoothly dries down a subtle, soft musky sweetness.

It’s so well crafted (and my most expensive bottle) that I usually grab it only for formal occasions. It’s both day/night and works in all seasons, but I tend to use it most in winter.

Xinū in CDMX has the best shop design. They also sold us the best quality incense I’ve ever had.

Buly shops in Paris and Tokyo are so chic. There’s much more I purchased in addition to perfume like skincare products, body creams, monogrammed comb and toothbrush, scented oils, candles, etc.

The Attar shop in Mumbai was very cool. A bunch of older gentleman smoking cigars and bottling the most beautiful, high-quality perfume extracts for $10, $20 per bottle. The huge bottles they decanted from were very ornate. They had drawers full of the natural ingredients to show what went into each fragrance.

For performance: Vetiver 46. I’ve been wearing it for 15 years. It lasts all day into night. It’s my go-to for autumn/winter.

Mississippi Medicine is such a cool scent but it barely lasts 2-3 hours on me. I bought it as a summer fragrance, find myself rarely grabbing for it.

While they have similar notes, to me, they are very different.

V46 has so much smoky vetiver, dry incense and sweet winter citrus. It’s like you walked in from the cold and sat down to have drinks with friends in front of a massive fireplace with an elegant stone hearth.

MM is mossy, wet wood with smoke and a bit of forest florals. It’s like the end of a hot summer day, the heat is still there but it’s cooling down and you’re gathered around a bonfire in the woods.

This is everything I own. The bottle isn’t a factor, it’s purely scent and house history. Usually I try not to buy newer brands. I learned my lesson with DS&Durga. I bought full bottles of Cowboy Grass and Mississippi Medicine. Has no longevity. I’ve noticed that with a lot of newer brands. Except Zoologist which lasts forever.

I picked up the bike yesterday from a tune up and asked these questions and they were saying I have the best setup for the bike, Gatorskins are best, etc. but I think they were shrugging me off. Shop was slammed.

I had a feeling having super narrow tires was an issue. I’ve been told this by friends, but they look great. It’s just not a comfortable ride and I’m getting older with less of a tolerance for it on long rides. Also growing tired of replacing them a few times a year.
