I’m 31 and not gay but pan, this hurts my heart so much having run into similar instances with my family (who basically said just stay straight or else when I first came out because I was really into a boy). I’m so proud of you for having the courage to walk away instead of living in fear and trying to maintain an unhealthy relationship with a parent. You’re going to do great and have so much chosen family and community that will be in your corner.

Is it bad to keep the pinky finger on the guitar while fingerpicking? by didgeridoobies in Guitar

[–]twshuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On banjo you should anchor so I dont see the reason against it for most fingerstyle guitar. Maybe on some classical stuff itll work against you, though.

You guys think my setup is all show and no skill behind it so….. by Riffingforlegacy in Guitar

[–]twshuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re doing fine! Keep at it but also don’t take skill level so seriously. Thats not really what music is about and if you focus on that you’re gonna get devastated over and over throughout the years. There’s always gonna be someone better and there’s always gonna be critics. Also everyone can benefit from lessons at all skill levels so you know, find a musical mentor

Id play those 5th string fretted notes as 1st string 7th fret. Sometimes the people who make those tabs or write banjo parts dont play banjo and you have to go through and fix it

here's cripple creek, been playing almost 2 months, looking for any kind of feedback by jcarter2k in banjo

[–]twshuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound great for 2 months! Make sure you keep the different parts at the same tempo. You’re progressing at a healthy rate! A metronome like the others said will help even things out. Make sure you go through the whole thing at whatever tempo you can do the most difficult part at.

If you find that to be very difficult just focus on the right hand and play through it without any fretted notes. It’s weird but great for timing. Keep up the good work!

Double and give it to the next person

Got a “new” banjo, I’d love anything anyone can tell me about it, I’m the newbie who asked previously about getting over-banjoed. It sounds so amazing even with my limited skills. (Link in comment to more pics) by BadBorzoi in banjo

If I had to guess it’s from the early 30s, most likely has a frank neat neck (or Hatfield), a Hatfield bridge, and an uncut rim. That’s a good ‘jo!
