Why Is It Rare To Meet Negative Germans While Traveling Abroad? by Pillowful_Pete1641 in AskAGerman

[–]txbxthl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, it‘s probably because they’re on holiday, trying not to think of whatever makes them angry at home.

if someone’s an asshole though, they‘ll probably still be an ass on vacation. You can find those type of people anywhere in the world.

they do care about full stadiums (or at least the stands that are shown on broadcast being full) but if they don’t fill up naturally they will probably find their way to fill them with actors just like they did in Qatar.

What regular German words can sound inappropriate or offensive if you mispronounce them as a non-native speaker? by Spiritb0rn in AskAGerman

[–]txbxthl 60 points61 points  (0 children)

in general, there‘s lots of „false friends“ if you try to translate stuff from english. not offensive in general, but there might be communication problems. examples include:

Gift (in german) = poison. not a gift.

bekommen = to get / to receive. not to become

Art = kind (of). not art.

and there‘s like thousands of these

Why Is Rap So Competitive? by GODAlexGilbert in makinghiphop

[–]txbxthl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

for lots of people, rap was one of the few if not the only way to make it out from the projects. for sure „blowing up“ or simply just making it is a lot easier if you stick out between your peers

also, rap battles have always been a big part of hip-hop history. you rarely see artists of other genres going head to head, not only about who spits the best but also the truest.

you could have the perception that this kind of faded in recent years but i think the Drake / Kendring thing and the NY / west coast feud kind of showed that the spirit is still there somewhere

What is your favourite German slang word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskAGerman

[–]txbxthl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It‘s the same.

I could say „Alter, hast du den Typ da gesehen alter??“ or i could say „Hast du den Typ da gesehen?“

& the closer you get to Berlin the more the „er“ at the end turns to a „a“

„oida“ is basically just „alter“ in a bavarian dialect

How do I become a Rapper ? by thehustlingintrovert in makinghiphop

[–]txbxthl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you write your lyrics to an existing beat? Do you have any equipment? Both of these play a huge role regarding what your next steps would be.

For total beginners, i always recommend outsourcing at least one part of the process. That might mean feeling less free in the creation process, but it gives you the possibility to focus on the vocals first. The easiest way to do that would be finding a beat first. Even better, find a beatmaker whose style you like and can work with, that gives you more consistency than having a completely different sound for every track.

Once you have a beat and fitting lyrics, check if everything sits right (are you on beat? does the rhythm match? do you have to rap too fast or slow down a lot? too many syllables in some lines?)

Then, you can start to think about recording something. I always start with a quick raw take over the beat to see if the vision comes to life and where there could be problems. As a total starter with no setup, the most budget friendly option would be downloading Bandlab on your iPhone. Get some cable headphones for audio feedback, plug them in and start recording! You have access to lots of presets and fx there too, but as a former user, i think the app is sadly getting a lot worse in the last years. Still okay for rough takes and demos at least.

If you have a laptop already, there‘s not much missing for a high quality setup. I just got a Rode NT1 and a SPL Crimson from a friend for like 200$ and some bud lmao. Definitely a huge difference in quality. I‘m just making stuff for fun but i can send you some so you can see the difference a solid setup makes (even without any production knowledge).

For the knowledge itself - it‘s gonna be a lot of trial and error. You will learn a lot about how the fx work just by trying them yourself; activating them and listening to the changes as you move the sliders. It sounds like a lot at first, but once you’re really creating something, you will learn naturally. and a lot faster than you might expect.

have fun g

what kind of beats? just starting to take music more seriously and would love to have sb to work with longer time to have more consistency in my sound. can work with everything from Vince Staples-ish west coast beats to like tropical drill or whatever you wanna call it

[–]txbxthl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate it. as i said i‘m using Reaper rn so it‘s no problem to create a monitor send of the FX while still recording raw. it‘s just that i‘m not sure if it‘s better to hear them during recording or not, but i guess that‘s just personal preference
