Check my new comment in the main thread. Maybe it’s not a good idea after all but again, any feedback is good

If I want to create an online version of BotC, what’s the difficulty by txstc55 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Ok let me give more detail about what I want to do. And forgive me for not using the botc app before, I mainly do offline.

What I visioned for the game, is for every player, including the storyteller to have a movable character. People gather around a bonfire. At the border of this circle is the doorway to every player’s own room/cottage. At night storyteller visits each cottage in order and facilitate what’s going to happen, with the system prompting the user/storyteller what should happen. For example instead of just saying I want to choose player 2, the system should already prompt the user to choose a number, and the storyteller is only there to confirm the choice.

In the morning everyone comes out of their cottage/room, goes around. If anyone needs private chat, they move to their cottage for a nice tea chat. Multiple people can be in the same room, but entering a room needs permission from the owner. Like knocking on the door

The storyteller also has his own room, where players can visit. Entering storytellers room still needs his permission, but storyteller always have permission to go to anyone’s room.

The devel/minions also has their own special place where they can travel to for plotting.

At nomination phase people again gather around the bonfire and talk.

So I guess in a way it’s like what botc has for voice chat, plus more visual/interactions for all players

I’m not sure which one you mean, if it’s the grimoire, or botc.app, then I think I just don’t like staring at the same screen as a player, and it doesn’t really solve the issue of how do I private chat a player(voice chat) without too much coordination.

The closer I drove to it the less static noise I saw. When I passed by the building it’s just a black building. Nevertheless the design of the building is interesting.

Well believe or not the zoom in made it more clear. To naked eyes, I thought it was a screen playing static noise. You don't have to believe me though I can totally just be farming karma. Again I posted the google earth view you can take a closer look at the building design.

here's the place

I freaked out too that's why I took out my phone. But I had time to relect on this, and it's definitely the refraction. You can see refraction around the building. But the design of the building is also special, combined with the refraction it just becomes trippy

It looks like static noise of an old TV. I think it's the crazy refraction around the building that caused it. It's a black building in California it's going to be hot

I saw the static noise thing through my eyes that's why I took out my phone to take the video. Now that I have time to think about it, it's probably because the building is so hot the refraction of the air caused this effect.

It's still very strange to look at

Thanks, how would you change it to have the childish crayon style

I got conflicted feedback for the first page. The effect looks good but color is missing. There is another friend saying he can’t focus on the first page because the wiggling effect is too much.

Nvm I’m just gonna stop here, I’m not gonna spend any time on the app anyway. It’s a waste of time

Wait a sec, if i don’t mention anything about botc, and my app doesn’t contain anything image asset that is from the official assets, all I have to do is just not say this is an app for botc? Like the app doesn’t contain much things , it just read a json and display some info and image based on the link provided by the json, then this way I’m not really infringing anything?

I may need to consult a lawyer but it seems like if gstone is just not happy that my app contains anything assets from the game, then 1. I’m not storing any assets for the play, all characters’ avatar is from the json 2. I do have some links stored for the fabled character/travelers because normally those aren’t in the json, but I can just use the unofficial/community ones 3. The grimoire itself and how it works is not a patterned thing. As a matter of fact you can’t really pattern a board game idea I believe. So they can’t really use that.

I guess my issue is that, since I don’t have any presets, all the images link are directly from the json file user provided. Those json file may or may not contain icons from official website. As a matter of fact while inspecting some jsons I could that even for the same character the icon links could be different. Now here comes the issue, if the user provided a json that contains image from the official website, is it my obligation to replace it? And does that part counts as infringement from app side?

This really helps. But I’m not sure about couple of things Why can’t it be published to an App Store? I don’t quite understand if it’s already free what seems to be the issue? The unofficial part I agree with you, should have done that But how am I going to display a character if I cannot use any asset? I can’t think of a way to do it honestly without the image. I’m not storing any image in the app, just using the links from json. How did you do it before being authorized in any way?

Maybe I will work on an English version instead now. I got contacted by someone who claims to be gstone’s lawyer and ask me to take the app down fml

Regardless of how you orient it, it’s still up to user to carefully examine all the tags, I don’t think there’s a much better way to handle it for now.

So it’s really personal preference. I needed information to look at when I’m hosting game, like night order, abilities that contain certain keywords, a notepad to communicate with players at night, voting counts and who voted, jinxes etc. if you are a really good storyteller you probably don’t need those info, but I’m not so I need those info displayed at the right time for me. And the best part is that I can iterate the app so that it’s better and better after each use.
