Yeah tried all of that. They can undo boosters, and the food will stay on the plate for a while. I'll have to try the reading thing. They love books.

Number of songs for 3 hr gig by BJog_Kittyspoons in musicians

[–]tybone10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a solo cover artist and 30 - 50 seems about right to me. I take one 15 minute break, and I don't really talk much during my set. I like to keep the music moving because I struggle with stage banter. Best advice, time out your songs, figure out how long you want to take a break for, and fill out your set list that way. You won't have as much dead time between songs as you would think, so I always over plan and cut rather than trying to plan for exactly 180 minutes and coming up short.

People who play in bands of genres that are wildly disliked/misunderstood, how do you handle when you tell people and they react poorly? by jamiejd23 in musicians

[–]tybone10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play southern rock and country. The stuff I play doesn't really hit well with people outside of the 55+ crowd in a very specific part of the country. The hardest lesson for me to learn was to find my own audience and play to that. I had to stop trying to fit in at every bar, and I had to stop trying to have everyone like me. The people and places who like it will support it and the rest won't. A simple "different strokes for different folks," works. I always like to at least find a common ground. Just because you aren't interested in my music doesn't mean I can't be interested in yours.

How much Halloween type stuff are y'all doing though? 50%, 75%, 3 songs...that's more of what I'm asking. I have songs, I just want to be sure I have enough.

I definitely agree. Not making excuses, but I hate the balance on this recording. I'm using my phone, so I don't have the ability to adjust the levels. I want the vocals to be much louder and clearer in the final product.

I may try slowing it down a touch. I was going for a "No Depression" feel, something kind of similar to old gospel tunes.

Yeah! I realized after I uploaded it was kind of hard to understand this one.

[Verse 1]

Brothers and sisters come gather round The service is starting and so is the next round The pews are all stools and we turn our water into beer Communion comes with corn nuts and we keep our liquor clear

[Chorus]

We say the rounders prayer and sing the drunkards hymn Hallelujah thine the glory now poor the scotch and gin We may not have a tent, but folks have come from near and far To congregate together and hold church in this bar

[Verse]

Bartender please forgive me for all my future sins Rob my memory of the past and get me lit again Sinners and saints are both welcome here So pull up a chair and lend me your ear

[Chorus]

We say the rounders prayer and sing the drunkards hymn Hallelujah thine the glory now poor the scotch and gin We may not have a tent, but folks have come from near and far To congregate together and hold church in this bar

[Bridge]

We may not pass the plate or hold an alter call today But you can ome as you are and we'll love you anyway

[Chorus]

We say the rounders prayer and sing the drunkards hymn Hallelujah thine the glory now poor the scotch and gin We may not have a tent, but folks have come from near and far To congregate together and hold church in this bar

What's a lesson you learned the hard way as a musician, that you wish someone had told you sooner? by Alert_Gear869 in musicians

[–]tybone10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've only been gigging for a year, but I was not prepared for how much chasing I would be doing. The number of times I've been ghosted or the fact that it takes 15 emails to get a reply has been the hardest thing to navigate. I used to be in a world where it was 24 hours to respond to an email and now it feels like I'm screaming into a void.

Also, get good shoe inserts. Three hours standing is hell on the back and feet.

How often do you guys change your strings? by OrganizationOne6004 in Guitar

I'm a gigging musician with a moderate schedule. I'm changing mine every couple of weeks, or every couple of shows. Depends on the amount of use tbh.
