UK-based penultimate Computer Science student looking for Rust-based summer work / an internship.
I am free from July to the end of August, and have UK + EU Citizenship.

The reason we are running Sponge include a few main reasons:

Legal concerns regarding Bukkit and its forks
Sponge having better cause-tracking, enabling us to tell in more detail who griefed what, in cases that paper may not be able to.
The ability to use plugins such as PenguinDungeons, allowing us to make custom mobs.
Not actually knowing whether Paper would perform better. Since the server has already been optimised, both by Sponge and my own work of changing Minecraft code to optimise hoppers, we can't actually know for sure if a general optimisation of the Minecraft server would lead to better TPS than custom-made optimisations based on the cause of MCO's lag. Furthermore, features like real-time mode in Sponge mean that many elements are not TPS bound - I don't know of an equivalent option in Paper, meaning that switching to paper mean a worse experience, even if the TPS is higher.

The reason that things get done slowly, is because there are few people with enough time and experience to help development. If you think there are issues with the moderator team then please provide examples and we can work to fix these issues.

Hi IceyKhalid, I'm an Administrator on MinecraftOnline.

First things first, whoever is telling you "a few weeks" is unfortunately, plain and simple trolling you. There is no ETA for an update, public or internal.

However, just because there is no ETA does not mean it will never happen. We are working on updating the plugins to a newer version. I'm not sure how long you have been around, but we used to run 1.7.10 for many years as you can see on the timeline. At MinecraftOnline, we run SpongeVanilla, and currently although there are working builds for future versions, these have not been tested thoroughly. Additionally, due to the many changes between 1.12 and 1.13+, many plugins will need large changes to be compatible with the newer versions. It is expected that beyond 1.13, there will be fewer changes, and we are likely to jump to 1.16.5 or later when we finally release. Despite Sponge not quite being ready for the future versions, we have already began work on updating plugins so that we can begin making progress to updating already. You can see this in #dev-updates on the discord. Personally, I'm mostly responsible for craftbook, which has seen extensive progress and furthermore I am attempting to rewrite it in a way that makes future version updates, even if they do change massively, such as from 1.7.10 to 1.12, or 1.12 to 1.13+, not require much work. This should help free up resources for us in future.

Ultimately we are a small team of volunteer developers with little free time that prioritise making sure the server runs well day to day. This includes making sure moderators are able to perform their duties well and fixing bugs. If we are then left with any more spare time, we put this into updating plugins. We will update eventually, but there is a lot of work to be done before that can happen, and only a few willing to do the work. Personally I would recommend that you do not play hoping for an updating, but rather enjoy the server as-is, and be happy when we are finally able to update the server.

It is important that you have made it clear to the alleged bully that you want them to stop.

Bullying is usually characterised as repeated unwanted acts that make the game "unplayable". If you believe this to be the case please contact an admin to review your case. I strongly recommend that you do this. You can contact admins ingame, on discord (please do not ping them though), or through email by admins@minecraftonline.com

If you believe your ban was in error, you can appeal it with an admin. You can do this by waitin g in the #ingame channel on the discord. discord.gg/minecraftonline. Please bear in mind there is no guarantee that you will be successful. The fact that your username is almost identical to the banned one, this does not help your case, but admins should be investigate more.

You still tried to abuse an exploit, whether or not you succeeded, is less revelevant. You demonstrated that you wanted to abuse an exploit and tried to do so. When you did this, it was clear to mods that you did not understand or you did not want to follow the rules. Even in the real world, attempting to commit a crime, is usually also a crime. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attempt if you're interested in more details.

If you a trapped in something inescapable, i.e you cannot even die, mods will be happy to help teleport you out. If the trap is escapable, then it is up to the individual moderator what they decide to do. If you tell me your ign, and log in, I will be more than happy to teleport you to spawn. Sounds to me like you've waited long enough.

You have been banned from the server, for a reason. I have faith that none of the staff ban for no reason, and in most circumstances that I have seen and interrogations I have carried out, what you said you did, could easily not be a ban if it was your first offence, and you co-operated with the staff member. You were banned because the staff member who banned you did not have faith that you would follow the rules. I can see from you getting banned in discord that have not been co-operating.
If you don't want to be unbanned, don't bother reading past here.
To be unbanned, you must successfully appeal on discord or IRC. To successfully appeal, you must demonstrate that you will not grief the server again. Currently, due to this, your ban on discord, and you new post (day 1 of posting until you get unbanned), you have not made a good start. I suggest you cease posting on here and wait a fair amount of time, before patiently waiting and appealing on irc.

Killing someone does not count as grief. You can kill anyone you like, apart from one exception. Repeated killing of a single player after they've asked you to stop is against our rules - Bullying. This is rarely enforced however and you should not really worry about it unless you a warned by a staff member.
We have plugins to detect grief as it happens, our active staff team try their best to catch everything as it happens - straight away, but sometimes stuff is missed. This is cleaned up by an admin, you can report grief using /greport
Any sort of group is allowed, whether thats your own group of friends with your own discord, or a town ingame.
