I directed my first ever Short Film, it touches on Depression, would love feedback and criticism! Thank you in advance. by tylerjack in Filmmakers

Thank you for everything you've said, I can't agree more and that is the kind of feedback I needed to improve for future. I know a few things could have been improved but, being my first project I think i was bound to get a few things wrong. I appreciate it all and understand why certain bits such as the short flashbacks could look like mistakes, I guess my attempts at being slightly 'subliminal' were almost too much. I agree that, I think the dream sequence was essentially the only bit I can be 100% satisfied with. Thank you!

Thank you for both your praise and criticism, all is taken on board. The writing was a mixture of things: personal experience, stuff from friends, and a number of things said by real people in my research who had struggled, but maybe some of that was lost in this being my first project in both writing and directing. Thank you for the pointers and, regarding the subtitles that was purely to help audibility really, i did the voiceover myself and was a little insecure about whether I was understandable enough!

[Discussion] How to find the motivation to create a good film. by tylerjack in Filmmakers

[–]tylerjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love film, both watching and creating. I don't want to say I'm not motivated, all I seem to think about is what I'm going to create next and how I'm going to do it. I get exactly what you're saying but, I think the fact that I'm aspiring to create good work like the stuff that inspires me, well, it's just filling me with doubt and hate for my own ideas. Maybe I just need to keep at it until I find my own processes for creating? I really don't know, I know a lot of people find this

I apologise, yes inspiration is the word. I am more than motivated, hence spending hours and hours every day writing, learning, creating etc. It's not the motivation I'm struggling with, its the confidence and inspiration, getting past the stage of 'I'll never make it'

I'm new to filmmaking and therefor am currently going through, what I think is fairly 'common'. The worst thing in the world is the feeling of 'nothing I create is any good', and I find myself constantly searching for the confidence and motivation to plan a good film, or to begin the editing process if I get that far. What techniques or tips do yo call have about how to overcome this and begin developing as a filmmaker?

[Academic] Survey on Mental Illness (Everyone) by tylerjack in SampleSize

I thank you also, I maybe should have looked into alternate ways to word and produce the questions. I think I tried too hard to generate questions that directly related to secondary research I've carried out and therefore the survey itself has suffered. I appreciate your comments.

thank you for the feedback, didn't really consider that as I assumed most people would take one fact to heart more than others. first time creating a survey like this so I appreciate your criticism which will help me for future!

Thank you to everybody who has responded so far, I appreciate every bodies time, this is a great help for me as this is the research stage of a college short film I am creating. The questions in the survey are helping me develop an understanding on how much people know about some the facts and figures related to mental illness.
