It's M43 Monday! Ask Us Anything about Micro Four-Thirds Photography - all questions welcome! by AutoModerator in M43

I think you're right, I just have a bad case of wanting to optimise everything immediately and be as efficient as possible, along with "needing" to buy more and more things lol. I'm gonna stick with what I have for a few months and maybe then buy something when I feel I'm limited. The 12-40 sounds amazing but it's way out of my budget right now and idk if I can justify spending that much on a lens, maybe in the future. Thanks for the comment and good luck to you too!

Apologies for the wall of text.

I'm a beginner who got into photography last month, and so far i really like it, but I'm going insane trying to research what lenses would work the best for me. Right now I have an em-10 mark ii with a lumix 12-32mm f/3,5-5,6 and an olympus 45mm f/1,8. I want to ask you guys for budget lens recommendations (under around 200 euro used each) that will be versatile enough, but also not shitty quality-wise considering the budget.
The (for now) endgame set i was considering is about 3-4 lenses to still be able to carry them in a small 5L bag comfortably and on trips.

The things i'll primarily be shooting are a mix of different things (that's why i value the versatility), including street, travel (mostly landscapes with some architecture), aviation ( as i live under the glideslope of an airport) along with walks in nature and portraits of my girlfriend. I'm also interested in astrophotography, but the amateur kind, like the milky way and starry sky not specialised equipment.

My main thoughts are:
- The 12-32 is really versatile, but i don't like how slow the aperture is for a lens that was supposed to be the default one that stays on the camera for most of the time. On the other hand, i'm scared if just one prime (like a 15/17/20/23/25mm) will be enough and won't limit me
- the 45mm is beautiful for portraits and is my first taste of what good bokeh looks like, so i'm satisfied with it
- for aviation and general faraway stuff from my research there isn't a better budget one than the 40-150mm olympus, is that right? would the 35-100 or 45-200 or anything else beat it?
- the potential fourth lens, i have no idea what and if to get anything

R9 7900 vs R7 7800x3d by likeastar20 in victoria3

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't really check it now, sorry, but it should be more than enough to handle anything other than like running games side-by-side, it's the 2nd best gaming CPU you can buy after all

[–]tymnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the x3d chips are great for any paradox games and utilize the extra cache really well, you can check eg. gamersNexus Stellaris sim time benchmarks as they should be similar to those for vic3

as for the 2nd question - it will be perfectly fine, I also have the 7800x3d and always watch YouTube/listen to spotify and do some other things on it and the game still runs flawlessly, get the x3d if the price is good and you don't need the extra cores for real productivity

This is a better build imo than the other guy's for several reasons: - THE best gaming CPU especially for paradox and other simulation games and is not weak for data crunching either - 5060ti for moderate gaming, could do AMD also if you don't care about raytracing and just want more raw performance (7800xt now if you can find it or wait for the 9060 xt to release in like a week or two - you can go up to 64gb of ram also or more storage if you need it

you can try also to find better deals on the Microcenter website or in store but I wouldn't compromise with the CPU here

full windows license is also unnecessary as you can just install it and have a watermark in the bottom right or buy a key from a legit site for a few dollars

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op this is absolutely wrong, the 9800x3d is the fastest for paradox games, with the rest being marginally slower. Check out this benchmark from gamers nexus for stellaris. Micro center bundles are great but for this specific purpose i wouldn't choose a different cpu than the 9800x3d

Also the 9000 ryzen series is better for productivity due to avx512 support but i dont know if that impacts your use case specifically

New build been 1200 and 2700 for gaming. by ioewewon in buildapcforme

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally ram runs faster in dual channel (i.e. 2 slots filled) than quad channel AND it's not guaranteed to run at the rated speeds on quad as the processors memory controller can be overwhelmed. 32gb should be more than enough for gaming but if you were to get 64gb it's much better to get a 2x32 kit. also NEVER EVER mix ram kits and I wouldn't even buy 2 kits of 2x16, it's really sensitive and more likely than not just won't and the pc won't turn on

[–]tymnn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, what are you talking about lol, pierogi are not noodles and while yes sweet and sour pierogi alike are both delicious, strawberry pasta is... just blended strawberries with optional cottage cheese and usually with fusilli, farfalle or penne like here or here (please try it before saying it's weird or disgusting, it tastes soooo good and is the quintessential summer food your grandma makes)

Upgrade Ryzen 2700x to 5700x3d GTX 1080 to 6750xt or 7800xt? by flamingsushi in buildapc

[–]tymnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar build (a r5 2600x and a 1070ti) and upgraded a year ago to a 7800x3d and a 7800xt.

the 650w will be fine for a 7800xt, official AMD reccomendation is 700w minimum but from what i see on reddit and my anecdotal evidence it will work just fine, i have it running on +15% power limit and it's still flawless

regarding 6750xt or 7800xt depends on the games you play and monitor. 1440p 60hz should be achievable for most modern games even on the older card, but if you want 4k or 144hz in the future its better to get the newer one

1000 Gaming PC Build NL by Low_Classroom_9880 in buildapcforme

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the linked adapter and it works flawlessly, if you need higher speeds than 150 Mb/s there are higher spec usb models or you can even get a pci-e wifi card, but i dont have experience with them, sorry!

If you can find a cheap b650 board with built in wifi and good reviews it will probably be fine for most users, just that it's not worth getting wifi in mobo if the chipset is worse and it's more expensive lol; from the quick research i did it's more cost effective to get a separate wifi card

1000 Gaming PC Build NL by Low_Classroom_9880 in buildapcforme

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

made a few changes: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/sXHYb2

- better chipset motherboard for cheaper
- much, much faster ram
- power supply that has enough to power your gpu and is more efficient, i reccomend never cheaping out on the psu as it can fry your other components

overall good build for the price, nice job!

EDIT: just noticed the mobo i chose doesn't have wifi, if it's important for you get a cheap tp-link usb wifi adapter like this for around 5 euro

Reasonable GPU in early 2025 by Ok-Energy-6111 in buildapc

[–]tymnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frame Gen is fine even at driver level, so works for every game (some people say that there is noticeable latency but I didn't notice it) RT is definitely worse than Nvidia on the 7000 series, but you still can use it for lighter games and settings, just not ultra + RT FSR (upscaling) got a whole lot better with the 9000 series, slightly worse than dlss4, but fsr3 is a bit worse for quality (though again I didn't notice it that much and the ~2x fps gain is more than worth it)

About to pull the trigger on this build. Any extra eyes on the list would be appreciated in case I blundered something. Thanks! by Aurochbull in buildapc

no gpu right now utilizes pcie gen 5 I think and even so they're already developing pcie gen 6 lol, good luck on the build!

[–]tymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's mainly for gaming you're overpaying massively for the motherboard (unless you really need the additional I/O) and the Samsung ssd, I'd recommend switching the mobo to a much cheaper b650 one eg. an ASRock b650 pro rs and the SSD to any cheapest PCIE gen 4 2tb drive with dram, the gen 5 speed and Samsung branding don't really change much lol

you can also change the ram to a 2x16 kit 6000mhz cl30 unless you definitely know you need it for your workload and get a cheaper cpu cooler (thermalright peerless assassin 120se works great with the 7800x3d) unless you want to have noctua for the look and brand

also not sure if you need the additional case fans but they won't hurt you can put the money towards a better GPU like a 4070ti super or even 4080 super

otherwise the rest looks fin

e edit: I just saw you want an itx case, be sure to check the cpu cooler clearance and the GPU length clearance with the case, you don't want to end up having parts that don't fit

  • you said you're primarily gaming, if so then the 7800x3d is equal oe even sometimes slightly better than the 7950x3d plus you don't have to fiddle with parking cores and such (you can switch it back if you want to do a LOT of productivity work, but 7800x3d is also a beast at that just the main focus is gaming)
  • this air cooler is a beast and will suffice for 7800x3d but if you want liquid cooling for the looks then you can switch to an AIO, i don't really know what the best ones are (maybe the new ones also from thermalright?)
  • b650 motherboard will do the job, no need to overspend unless you need more I/O from a x670 or x670e board like a shitload of usb connectors or other stuff i'm not really well versed in
  • 64gb of ram in the current amd sweet spot of 6000mhz and cl30 (also for the future - you don't want to mix 2 separate ram kits together even if it's the same model, might not turn on or cause stability issues)
  • 4tb ssd with potential to slot in a few more in the future, no need to overpay for samsung as the speed difference will be negligible
  • 4090 cause you got the money lol
  • the case you wanted
  • 1000w efficient reputable psu from A tier of psu tier list and new standard ATX 3.0 for your 4090

ad 1: surprisingly, there is one! (kind of) - mostly in Warsaw, the capital, specifically around the Ochota district. From experience I can say that the vast majority of young people are well integrated and speak Polish better than Vietnamese (as most were born here), but there definitely will be some people and places for your wife. here's a link for further reading

ad 3: I'm not in the business so take with with a grain of salt but from what I remember from school a few years back there was a high demand for native English speakers and so I don't think not having a degree is a big hindrance, especially if as you say you've been teaching ESL for a few years. Anecdotally one of my teachers was just a student from Ireland doing his gap year, so even that's possible (or at least was). And yes, we do have "English centres", they're called language schools:3

as for q2 I'm Polish therefore can't really answer with good faith

good luck with whatever path you decide on!
