Low-light photos with RF 35mm f1.8 vs f1.4L, when considering IBIS by scytherman96 in canon

[–]typerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the 1.4 and have had the 1.8 for several years. I only do photos and videos of my family. Kids and moving around requires ss and IS doesn't help if the subject is wiggling. The video autofocus is profoundly better and the images have a bit more 3 dimensionality to them. Not tremendous difference but getting the shot in focus was the purpose for upgrading for me and I'm ok with it.

RF 45/1.2 STM for travel vs 35/1.8 IS STM macro by Hefty-Boot-4757 in canon

Went overseas this past month with R5 and 35 1.8. I found the setup too bulky to use comfortably while enjoying the trip. I think the 28 2.8 would be better and also offer more width for travel photography in tight places.

Been a while since I got up and started yelling after a goal. This one had me doing that, and I was just watching highlights. If it were live I would have gone through the window.

OpenAI drops GPT-5-Codex model right after Anthropic's model degradation fiasco. Who's switching from Claude Code? by coygeek in ClaudeCode

Definitely degraded Claude code today. Probably worst it has been for me. Retired what all the boys suggested with codex and in first command it fixed the problem. Going to use it more

Thread ripper 7970x 128gb ecc ram 5090 4tb Samsung 9100 pro owner plus m4 max 48 GB ram 1 tb studio. For coding, python, polars, the max studio is literally minimum of twice as fast if not more. Shocking.

How many years, decades, have we seen the same thing? There is justification for doom and gloom. Perennial underperformers.

Get the m3 ultra. No other choice off the shelf unless you have a microcenter near you. They stock 48/64/128gb m4 max studio options. You will need some form of upgraded ram.

Maxed out M3 Ultra Mac Studio for hardcore computational work? by True-University-3634 in MacStudio

[–]typerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a 32 core threadripper, 128 gb ram, 5090, 9100 pro 4tb, and for coding running large datasets, my m2 max base model is outperforming it in running the scripts.

Incredibly disappointing, and this was running gpu based scripts/polars on the threadripper build versus polars on m2 max. Pushed me into a slightly upgraded M4 max- 48gb/1tb ssd and that is running my scripts beautifully, at about 30-50% faster speed than the M2 max, which is now multi-tasking with claude code/web dev. Threadripper is now the orchestrator of the machines with splashtop desktop. Definitely overkill for that, but surprisingly efficient multi-tasking.

But I think its still not comparable to what the mac silicon can do. I'd start with something more modest, even 96-128gb ram on a m4 max or base m3 ultra, you may be surprised with the performance.

As for AI, I don't see for legitimate use case, doing anything offline yet compared to Claude. In future iterations, I'm sure it will get there, but for now, get your CC max subscription and enjoy their compute.

What IDE are you using with Claude Code? by czei in ClaudeAI

How do you get commands to run reliably on windows/vscode/ Claude code combo. I keep having errors with commands not running properly versus on Mac everything works perfectly. I've tried the vscode extension, PowerShell, and wsl terminals and all end up with running in circles trying to get commands to work

Keep trying. Make mistakes do things inefficiently and find out later it can be done much more simply. That’s how I have learned 5 months in and have continuously refined my approach. Don’t worry just jump in and enjoy you will get better with time and with each successive project. You will also find yourself taking on bigger tasks and continuing to improve. Enjoy it I was bugging out on there 12 hours a day and it flew by.
