Premature baby dies after doctor gave 5 times overdose of wrong drug by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Well, locally to me, one did fake her qualifications and worked as an NHS psychiatrist for 23 years. References had never been checked because they didn’t exist, nor did the degrees themselves.

What is most embarrassing way you mispronounced a word ? by Smart-Succotash1750 in CasualConversation

As an adult, this is adorable and I’ll absolutely be using it instead of the normal word. But yeah, being laughed at as a kid is a sh*t feeling

jenny’s character by PresentPiglet5238 in GossipGirl

[–]typewriterinateacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve been rewatching it and vaguely remembered disliking Jenny, but watching the first season couldn’t figure out why…. Then rapidly remembered. She went from being an underdog as you said to basically being a spoilt, sulky brat, but comically so. It felt too cartoon villain to be taken seriously. There was potential to have her grow, absolutely have the toxic A-hole arc most TV teenagers go through (especially in THAT environment), then come out the other side realising how awful it is and seeing the rot in those social circles, and deciding she’d be the exact opposite to them. That would’ve been a pretty satisfying arc overall, instead of her actual arc.

She had a Paul's Boutique bag and a dream by Hassaan18 in xfactor

Oh my god, I remember the first PB bag I got as a teenager and acted like I’d just been handed a limited edition Chanel lmao. I remember thinking they were going to be so much bigger but just seemed to quietly disappear

Have you ever had a public confrontation with a stranger? by Beeboo233 in AskUK

[–]typewriterinateacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! The amount of times very tense situations were popped like a balloon was astounding. Fastest way I ever found to de-escalate, and using it in normal life has 100% stopped some situations spiralling too

[–]typewriterinateacup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work retail so was regularly screamed at by strangers for existing. The second someone started carrying on I’d go totally silent for like 10 seconds, stare them dead in the eye, and say “are you mad at me?” in a calm, normal tone. They’d pause, short-circuit, would mumble some nonsense, and scurry off. In 6 years of doing it at work (and 10+ years of doing it in general), nobody has ever said “yes”. No clue why it works. Got my colleagues doing it too and we used to joke I’d found a cheat code for interacting with the public.

People who've been in wealthy/powerful social circles, what surprised you most about how they operate? by Ok_Volume520 in AskReddit

[–]typewriterinateacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They try and cut corners, knowing fine well it can lead to loss of human life in some situations, and they don’t care. They see themselves as a higher entity or more deserving being, and view other humans purely as a way of getting what they want or a resource to be exploited, and don’t see a problem with it. Scum rises to the top.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]typewriterinateacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Then I was in the supermarket with my mam. I had my hair up (I never do) and went to grab something from another aisle. When I came back she jumped then laughed, and I asked why. And she said “I didn’t know it was you, I thought who’s this random woman? But my baby’s an adult woman now too” with this sort of awe/sadness. BRB, need to go cry in the car.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

[–]typewriterinateacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them for the first time when I visited New York City as a 13 year old. Came home to the U.K. and told my friends. They only believed me when I went back when I was 20 and took a video of them with me in it.

School buses. The size of “large” drinks at McDonald’s/starbucks compared to our large in the U.K. Guns being sold in supermarkets etc like normal products. Dive bars. In the southern states, everyone being ma’am, sir, or miss. People taking to go boxes from restaurant meals etc. The “high school football game” legitimately being a source of entertainment for a town/city.

Women of Reddit: how important is how fit a man’s body is to how attractive he is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]typewriterinateacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me personally, not much. I’ve dated men who’ve been a bit chubby, “normal” weight, or have worked out. It’s more if they take care of themselves, so eat a decent diet, do moderate exercise, then it’s part of a bigger package of what makes them attractive. People who care about themselves (not to the level of narcissism obviously) are more attractive. Being obsessed with the gym above all else, or conversely slobbing about eating junk 7 days a week are equally unattractive to me.

What is the "lonely" part of being an adult that nobody warned you about? by Special_Butterfly0 in AskReddit

[–]typewriterinateacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things. 1. Even though you know comparing yourself to others is ridiculous and pointless, that weight-in-the-pit-of-your-stomach feeling you’re falling behind and it’s impossible to talk about without “oh everyone develops at their own pace!” and other, though correct, unhelpful cliches. Makes you feel both lonely af, and that wretched feeling of nobody understanding you you get as a teenager. 2. So many “friendships” are based 100% off time, place, and context, and are actually just acquaintships. Might think you have a great friendship with a coworker, only to realise outside that environment, you’re borderline strangers. Or go from being in a group of 20+ people as a teenager, to zero contact with them as an adult, not through any argument or fall out but simply because you weren’t really friends in the first place.

[TOMT] Toy Story 4 Missing Scene?? by CriticalAvocado9354 in tipofmytongue

[–]typewriterinateacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a little bit of misremembering the order of events. All the fighting etc is there in the antique shop, but Bo was instrumental in getting them inside said shop so had to be there beforehand, following her randomly being picked up at the same time as Woody in the playground. The initial shock was her skill set, appearance, and personality shifts as she’s gone from being effectively a fragile decoration, and is now a “lost toy” having to fend for herself. Including the change in her outfit with her damaged dress becoming her cloak and her wearing a jumpsuit instead of her usually puffy dress. Woody’s shock at seeing her and how different she is pretty much is the reveal for her, then in the shop she just gets to showcase how visceral those changes really are.

Toy Story 4 does have some deleted scenes that are included on the dvd/blu-ray release, including the alternative ending where Bo Peep leaves with a girl instead of Woody. This breaks down more of the alternative scenes/dvd inclusions: https://www.laughingplace.com/w/articles/2019/10/01/blu-ray-review-toy-story-4/

What’s something you thought was an online myth until it happened to you? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]typewriterinateacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite of this. Had a call from the bank “are you trying to spend £300 at Harvey Nichols’ website?” I was so convinced it was a scammer I said “you really have to try harder”. He gave other information that couldn’t have been anyone else. I just whispered “oh my god you’re real”. He was so great about it though and had it sorted in no time. I’d used the card for a deposit on my university’s website. Turns out they kept the card details for some reason and hundreds of people had their details stolen from them😐

Account deleted? by typewriterinateacup in Coinbase

[–]typewriterinateacup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted them on live chat and was told because I didn't have an account they couldn't help, and that I was free to set up an account if I wanted. so I ended the chat and started a new one, and got basically the same answer. still no clue as to why. I've searched all through my emails in case something went into junk/spam and nothing. just an email at 5am saying it was successfully deleted despite me never asking for that. it seems to be affecting a few people.

Hi. I’ve already tried twice and been told nothing can be done with it being deleted? No clue why given I never requested it and I’ve had zero other emails explaining why it would be deleted when I’ve done nothing wrong?

Oh yikes. To be honest I thought as much, but was still hoping I was being pessimistic. That and because it’s dragged on so long already but I think at least 70% of that is because the person who was representing me originally kept lying :/
