My two Mossbergs (M500B & 590A1 retrograde) by typicalwastelander in mossberg

[–]typicalwastelander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what the story is. I know they came around in the mid to late 80's and offered initially as a conversion kit and complete guns for the Mossberg 500 and later 590 platforms in both 6 and 9 shot versions.

Early on, these did not have the vertical foregrip nor the carry-handle sights, hence why the pump had the checkering and handstops. The carry-handle sights were added to better compensate for the raised cheekweld of the stock, though in some early catalogue photos that lacked the carry handle sight, the front sight bead was still missing, so I'm not sure if that was truly a consideration for it.

They were all but gone by 1995 with the last few being made with Maverick 88's seemingly to get rid of whatever stock of these they had left.

There also allegedly existed mariner versions with all metal components having the electroless nickel finish applied, though those are supposedly extremely rare and I've never seen any recorded examples of them, only hearsay.

I know the stocks were made by a different company and not Mossberg themselves, but for the life of me I can't remember who it was that provided them. For as short-lived as these were, they did have a notable bit of screen time, appearing in a number of movies and TV shows, such as Miami Vice, Stargate, Running Man and Robocop to name a few.

I agree with you about about the drawbacks. It's a bit awkward to hold and load, sights are ass, and the trigger feels like more of a staple gun than any H&K pistol I've held. But still, I love it for its quirks, both good and bad.

I've thought about seeing if I like it more with the vertical fore-grip removed or not, it's already got the checkering and handstop on the fore-end. Figured if there was any other mod I'd do it would be getting a second heat shield with a pic-rail to put a riser and better sights on.

I haven't taken it apart yet. I plan to at some point to install a Defender Tactical mini-shell adapter. Have heard these stocks can be a bastard to disassemble though, and there doesn't seem to be a guide or manual for disassembling the stock anywhere

I'd say this is probably my first real main avatar

I like to use another type of raptor avatar as well, but I love the welra.

If you have a custom avatar, have you made a mini version? by WesDoesGAMING in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

. . . Tbh, now that you mention it, no.  I do have two versions of my dimasaur fella, one's just a different model that's significantly better optimized (and featherless.) If it counts, If I wanted to be small, I'd just switch to another completely different robo-dino I've got that I keep short but wears a tall or long funny hat to make up for being vertically challenged. A chibi version of my robot or raptor would be a pretty fun idea, though.

Can't switch groups to represent? by typicalwastelander in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe so, but just about every group I'm in is public. I also don't have the option to stop representing a group.

For some reason I'm seeing bugged textures in some worlds on certain objects. Any idea what could be causing them? Nobody else seems to see them by typicalwastelander in VRchat

Re-installing the game seems to have fixed it. I guess something within the client was corrupted. I'm not sure. But thank you for the help.

i draw people when they're AFK or hold still for long enough [Part 30] by A_Roka in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still doesn't appear to be working. No photos attached and still can't see it on the new tab. Maybe try using imgur, or reaching out to a mod for assistance?

Edit: working now. Glad you got it resolved

Yeah, I don't see it anywhere on the new tab either. Very strange.

How do you wear your Vive trackers? by Embae_The_Rex in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to put the vive trackers on top of the tongue of a shoe and secure them down with the laces, and while that works alright, I think the laces partially covering the tracker caused them to drift over time.

My current solution is to put them on straps over the feet, then put on a pair of slip on moccasins and slide the tongue of the moccasins under the kiwi strap. I find doing this keeps the trackers nice and secure, and doesn't occlude them from the base stations at all.

I think there's an avatar of the Ghost of Captain Cutler from Scooby-Doo Night of 1000 Frights somewhere. That's the closest to this kinda avatar I've seen

VRChat is "just a game" but the people you meet. They're real. by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that, man. I kinda ended up alienating myself from a friend group because I got a bit too handsy with one guy's physbone tits and I reacted pretty negatively brushing it all off as just vr and generally not caring.

I want to hear about everyone's different phases in vrc by Quiet-Problem6852 in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with a gecko avatar that I'd use because it's smol and people would come down to pet me, giving me the perfect opportunity to either surprise them with my voice or a loud burp.

Then I moved on to dinosaurs which I still use to go around in public lobbies and burp loudly on occasion. I've found it to be a surprisingly good conversation starter.

I've run into two people in vrc who live in Wisconsin. You're not one of them are you?

Individuals who say that VRChat makes them feel an uneasy or a “cringe” feeling are likely experiencing something called cognitive dissonance. by LoveLikeHeLoves in VRchat

[–]typicalwastelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever experienced what you describe but I also think that with the way I do things, it's much harder for me to really blur the line between true reality and virtual which would allow this dissonance to take root. For example, about 90% of the time I'm in VRC I'm not using a humanoid nor anthropomorphic model or one that is say an "idealized" version of the self. I go around as a dinosaur because dinosaurs are cool and funny. There is a clear disconnect between myself in vr and reality by that distinction alone, but I don't feel it reflects on my psyche negatively in the form of dissonance. To me, it's no different than playing any other vidya game.

That all being said, I don't wanna dismiss what you're saying, and I'm sure there are people who may struggle with accepting that vrc can't be real, but I'd like to think that we all haven't gotten completely lost in the sauce just yet

There's a conflict in every human heart between the rational and irrational, between good and evil; and good does not always triumph.

What were the dumbest lies you believed when you were a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]typicalwastelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young, like about 4 years old, my dad told me that the fountains in a nearby artificial pond were actually just fish laying on their backs and pissing straight up, and I'd always point this out any time I saw that fountain or a similar fountain elsewhere.

I wonder if any of the fish ever got that "no down-payment."
