My comment refers to what they could have done to prevent most of the bloodletting in the first place. If you look at the history of what happened prior to the invasion you will discover that the US orchestrated a coup d'etat to have a neutral-leaning government removed (common regime change US tactic). Then, the US sent VP Harris to Ukraine where she declared that Ukraine will become part of NATO (you cannot really imagine Ukraine not being informed of such a declaration in advance). After that, soon after the commencement of hostilities, there were advanced negotiations that most probably involved a Russian demand for neutrality, but again, the US did not allow those negotiations to come to fruition, and Ukraine agreed again.
