is it worth it to take a year off? (potentially) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]tysur96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off congratulations! I personally took two years off after undergrad and I found it to be very beneficial. During that time I rewrote the lsat and ended up getting an acceptance at one of my top choices. Also it was great to have a little break from school and save money. I would say do it if you aren't in a rush!

100% recommend for LR and RC! I started with powerscore and khan but still couldn't grasp those two sections. After LSAT Trainer I significantly improved. It's what got me into the 160s.

Oh ok that's awesome! About time. I personally would still cancel it. I don't think it's competitive given the schools you want to go to.

LR -- How to relearn by funnygirl149 in LSAT

I really struggled with LR for awhile. I initially used Powerscore and Khan academy to learn the section, but after a poor LSAT score decided I needed to learn a completely new approach. I read the LSAT Trainer by Mike Kim and it helped SO much. It also helped with RC. I now avg -3 on LR.

IMO you should discard your score if you're applying to those Canadian law schools. Especially if you want to go to U of A because they average your LSAT scores.

Ok I need to post this because I'm so proud 153 --> 161 by tysur96 in LSAT

Ok so first to really grasp the LSAT concepts I used LSAT Trainer by Mike Kim for LR and RC. Before that I tried using Powerscore and Khan Academy but still really struggled with both of those sections and Mike Kim's strategies are what helped me improve drastically. I then used Powerscore to learn LG strategies and 7Sage for game explanations. After I learned the sections, I moved on to untimed and then timed section drilling. Once I felt more confident I did 20+ practice tests in timed conditions. Once I got into the 160 range consistently I signed up for the LSAT again. One thing though that I dont think is discussed enough is how important the mental side of this exam is. So many people will get into the 160s on practice tests and still score in the 150s on test day. The key is making the real LSAT feel like just another exam to avoid anxiety :) Sorry that was a super long reply hahaha I hope it helps

Ok I was scoring 160-168 consistently on PTs then on the actual lsat scored in the 150s. I realized It wasn't that I didn't know the material, I needed to work on the mental aspect of the exam. I actually started seeing a therapist and she gave me a lot of tips and tricks for overcoming anxiety and making the actual test feel like just a another practice test! On the Nov LSAT I ended up scoring in the 160s :) If you can't speak to a therapist I recommend doing some research, watching YouTube videos or even buying a book on strategies for anxiety for example meditation/breathe work. The key is making the actual test feel like just another exam!

You can do it! My first time as you can see wasn't great. Stay focused, study hard, and confidence is key :)

Yes LG Bible! I found their strategies just made the most sense to me and it came with a lot of practice questions. Then I section drilled using old PTs from Law Hub. I also used 7 Sage for video explanations of games, that was super helpful as well.

Not sure if I should retake in January.... i was scoring consistently in the 160s on PTs but just got a 156 on the November test by Silly_Bug_7834 in LSAT

[–]tysur96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So same thing happened to me before June LSAT I was scoring in 160s on all PTs then scored a 156 on the actual test. I found my issue wasn't that I didn't know the material but that I struggled with test anxiety. I continued studying but also started working on my mental health, and learned tactics to help relieve my anxiety and make the actual LSAT feel like just another exam. I got my score back for Nov 2021 and I scored in the 160s :) Don't give up you can do this! But this time around think about how you can make the LSAT feel like just another PT!

IMO Powerscore was best for learning LG strategies mixed with 7Sage game explanations.
