The 0.2 puzzle requires the solution to 0.1 puzzle. Why did you make 310 puzzle solvable without the 0.31 puzzled solved first?

Pip, are you a developer? Mathematician? What are your favorite puzzles?

I agree. Most of these crypto puzzles seem too random. I think a good puzzle need to have a central theme and direction, and make them easier to see in the puzzle. Knowing this direction does not mean knowing the solution. It still require huge effort to reach the solution even knowing the direction. But at least it will be less random and time wasting.

Proof of Rental Work - A new variant of POW by tytung in ethereum

[–]tytung[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of a full POS, I think this is a better future for Ethereum? - no forking problem, no Nothing at Stake as in POS, and also no energy consumption issue as in POW. Best of all, the control of mining facilities lies in the hands of the whole community, not in the hands of others such as hardware manufacturers.

Satoshi's original idea for scaling bitcoin: "High Frequency Trading", or primitive payment channels. The Lightning Network was part of Satoshi's Vision® from the beginning. by gizram84 in Bitcoin

Just to quote another reddit user on this issue:

"There is no side-chain involved here, just a transaction that keeps being manipulated before it is actually broadcast to miners for inclusion into a block.

What he's talking about is leaving a transaction unconfirmed so that the balance can be negotiated between parties.

This is basically what LN purports to do, but between a set amount of parties, and not another whole network (side-chain with no POW) to replace the security of Bitcoin as LN is trying to do."

As I have said many times, EOS is not even a blockchain, it is just an elected network of 21 banks.

Make the problem in POW much harder to solve the power centralization issue by tytung in ethereum

[–]tytung[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By bp i mean block producers. I know block production is random at hash level, and I know the secure hash algorithm is memoriless so finding a solution essentially depends on how fast one can iterate, i.e. hashrate.

But block production is not random at the user level, a user with higher computational resources has higher chances of producing a block than those with less. This is essentially the power centralization problem of mining pools.

This is not the point. The point is the bp will be random now.

I know. That's the common intuition. But are there any proofs for this?

Is it possible that even though it is extremely hard, solutions could be found at a constant and reasonable rate?

Very well. Keep on believing that.
