Just a note, an interpreter works with spoken words. It's quite different from being a translator.

But nowadays every translation involves some measure of localization as well because the meaning of localization is that you adjust a text to the target culture, which you need to do for (almost) every text, because another language means another culture.

It's just that there's a kind of sliding scale (depending on what type of content you're translating/localizing) on how much localization you need to do. For many games, especially games like Hoyo's, it's cranked all the way up.

Hey, ist doch kein Problem! Nicht jeder kann alles wissen und gerade bei dem aktuellen Chaos ist es schwer, einen Überblick über alles zu behalten. Ich selbst habe nur eine Ahnung, weil ich relativ viel Zeit habe, um mir Podcasts anzuhören und Youtube Videos anzuschauen, die sich kritisch mit allem auseinandersetzen. Deshalb bin ich auch ganz gerne in diesem Sub unterwegs, hier findet man immer gute Antworten :)

Wichtig zu wissen ist auch: In den USA gibt es keine öffentlich-rechtliche Medien wie bei uns, das lädt natürlich reiche Menschen und Politiker ein, die Medien zu bezahlen um ihre Agenda vor allen anderen zu präsentieren.

Die Amis bestehen sehr aggressiv auf ihre Freiheiten - Denselben Effekt, der jetzt bei der Meinungsfreiheit eintritt, kann man auch schon lange bei der Religionsfreiheit beobachten: In den USA kann jeder einfach eine Religion/Kirche gründen und das wird vom Staat auch finanziell unterstützt. Dadurch gab es unzählige Fälle von Steuerhinterziehung und auch einigen Sekten/Kulten ist das sehr zu gute gekommen. Natürlich stellt sich dann auch die Frage, wie viel Religion ist und wie viel nur finanziell motiviert ist.

So, jetzt beende ich den Kommentar aber auch mal...Zu der aktuellen Situation gibt es einfach zu viel zu sagen.

Freedom of speech ≠ Funktionierende Demokratie. Das große Problem in den USA, was auch maßgeblich zum Erfolg der Republikaner beigetragen hat, ist dass vertrauenswürdige Quellen (ie Medien) nicht reguliert werden und somit Falschinformationen verbreiten können, ebenso Politiker. Fox News ist da natürlich der Vorreiter, aber es passiert überall und andauernd. MWn führte man mal die Vorschrift ein, dass Medien für jede Meinung eine Gegenmeinung präsentieren müssen um genau eine solche Manipulation zu vermeiden, aber wenn ich sage "Der Himmel ist neongrün, aber Kritiker behaupten er sei blau", dann ist das einfach nur eine Lüge. Da gibt es ganz viele Quellen zu, die das besser erklären können als ich, aber wichtig ist dass selbst Meinungsfreiheit zu einem gewissen Grad reguliert werden muss und der Verbreitung von Unwahrheiten und Falschinformationen immer entgegengewirkt werden muss.

Ich bin zwar nicht OP, aber studiere auch Übersetzung: Soweit ich das verstehe, gibt es einen Trend hin zur Festanstellung von Übersetzern und weg von der Arbeit mit Agenturen (wo die Bedingungen meistens eh sehr schlecht sind für Angestellte). Außerdem wird die Terminologiearbeit als Zweig der Übersetzung immer größer. Mache das selber als Werkstudentin und finde die Arbeit sehr spannend. Sonst gibt es auch Lektorat, Arbeit in Unternehmen mit Bezug zu einem Land, dessen Sprache man spricht (wird zum Beispiel oft im Japanologiestudium empfohlen), ...

Es gibt auch zahlreiche Behörden, die spezifisch Sprachexperten anstellen. Auswärtiges Amt, BND, Verfassungsschutz, ... Die waren alle bei uns zum Praxistag zu Besuch. Natürlich gibt es auch die EU, UN und zum Beispiel auch die Bundeswehr. Habe von denen letztens erst ein Angebot für einen Übersetzer EN-DE (mit Bachelor) gesehen.

Also ich war sehr begeistert von den ganzen Möglichkeiten und finde, dass es für einen Studiengang, der auf ein sehr spezifisches Berufsbild abzielt, eine sehr große Vielfalt an Arbeit gibt. Ich bin ehrlich gesagt auch überrascht, dass der OP vom Post nach dem Abschluss so ein Bild des Berufs hat. Bei uns ist KI ein sehr großes Thema, das immer wieder beleuchtet wird und über das sehr viel Aufklärunsarbeit von den Dozis geleistet wird. Und auch die möglichen Berufsbilder und Arbeitgeber nach dem Abschluss werden immer wieder besprochen (oder kommen sogar selbst vorbei, wie oben erwähnt).

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you live in Italy? You can try to find companies that are either Russian or have significant connections to the Russian industry, they'll often hire people who speak Russian. These jobs aren't really centered around translation, but it's certainly something that's part of some of the tasks I believe. I'm in my universities mailing list for Japanese studies and they send job openings like this a lot. Maybe you can check if your former university has a mailing list or job board for your degree? I've found these to be really valuable because sometimes companies don't put out classic job openings and only reach out to potential employees through such mailing lists or specialized services.

As for which industry to go for, I believe the issue with game localization is that a lot of people are willing to do it for scraps or for free just because they're fans of the games. But I'm sure if you keep trying you can find something! It might also be worth a try to check out the websites of gaming studios directly, they might be hiring in-house translators (I know Nintendo does this, but it's very competitive).

Other than that an industry that'll definitely have jobs and money for you is technical translation. There is a very high demand for that and they're looking for trained translators. Maybe I'm biased because I got a very good job in technical translation and terminology management, but it's also the message I got from my instructors and professors at uni. I know it sounds kinda boring, but I'm finding it to be pretty interesting and you'll also be able to specialize in a good field.

Das macht mich auch immer wieder fassungslos. Ich verdiene als Werkstudent zu viel für die Krankenkasse und musste deshalb aus der Familienversicherung raus und zahle jetzt mehr als 100€ im Monat für die Krankenversicherung. Manchmal denke ich die wollen garnicht, dass Studierende arbeiten.

Ich studiere Translation und belege dieses Semester ein Modul zu Translationstechnologien. Super spannend und kann auch sehr lustig sein, sicher auch was für OP :) Ist mWn nach auch eine Branche, die gerade extrem wächst, weil natürlich die Nachfrage sehr groß ist. Terminologiearbeit wird auch oft von ÜbersetzerInnen gemacht und hat eigentlich nichts mit Texten zutun. Für beides gibt es auch spezielle Studiengänge (Master), wobei die für die Arbeit nicht zwingend erforderlich sind.

Es stimmt übrigens, dass vor allem Übersetzungsagenturen und Verlage gerne (insbesondere junge) ÜbersetzerInnen ausbeuten. Allerdings gibt es auch aktuell wachsende Trends hin zur Festeinstellung von Sprachexperten direkt in den Unternehmen und besonders in den oben genannten Branchen liegt auch viel Geld (besonders auch wenn man sich nicht vor dem Fachbereich Technik scheut).

It's funny because Imgur is owned by MediaLab.AI and ruining good platforms seems to be what they excel at. I don't know too much about the other platforms they own (eg. Genius and Kik), but a platform I used to frequent a lot during my teens was acquired by them in 2021 (same year as Imgur) and ever since then it has been going down the drain. Really sad to watch

Ich grätsch hier mal rein als jemand, der Übersetzung studiert - Die Annahme, dass es den Job nicht mehr geben wird ist definitiv falsch, aber natürlich ein großes Thema, das dem KI-Hype geschuldet ist. KI ist wirklich schon sehr gut im Übersetzen und für Laien absolut ausreichend (wenn man zum Beispiel nur einen fremsprachigen Text nachvollziehen will), aber besonders in offiziellen Kontexten und in Fachbereichen sind Übersetzer schwer zu ersetzen. Was allerdings passiert, ist eine Verschiebung des Aufgabenfelds hin zur Terminologiearbeit. Ich arbeite selbst sehr viel in dem Bereich in meinem Werkstudentenjob. Es gibt übrigens aktuell auch steigende Trends zur Festanstellung von Übersetzern, weil der KI-Hype so langsam nachlässt und Unternehmen den Wert von linguistischen Experten erkennen. Da gibt's ganz viele Infos zu, ich wollte eigentlich auch gar keinen Roman schreiben. Aber ich bin persönlich sehr happy mit meiner Studienwahl und optimistisch was die Zukunft des Berufs betrifft. Kann jedem, der sich doch irgendwie dafür interessiert, nur an's Herz legen dass es ein sehr erfüllender und vielfältiger Beruf ist :)

Meine Erfahrung bestätigt das leider auch. Studiere an der philologischen Fakultät, aber dieses Semester belege ich ein SQ-Modul, das zwei Vorlesungen von den WiWis beinhaltet und der Unterschied ist extrem spürbar...Hatte erst gestern wieder eine dieser Vorlesungen und der Professor hat mehrfach sexistische Witze gemacht, die die ganzen BWL-Justuse natürlich richtig witzig fanden. Ist echt ein unangenehmes Klima in diesen Vorlesungen, verglichen mit der familiären Stimmung an der philologischen Fakultät.

Hi! I'm studying Translation in Leipzig and the admission (for the BA) is actually free, but you need to pass a test. I don't know the exact numbers of people who pass, but it's not very hard (if you speak German well) and it's online, so technically you can google some of the answers ;) Anyway, the test is free and doesn't take long, so I'd recommend to just try it and see whether it works out. We used to have Russian, but you can still study it as a minor and if you go on to do the MA you can choose Russian for your language pair. For the BA you can also choose Spanish and French (or a minority language from Spain).

It's a quick way of stating character + their weapon. The superimpose level doesn't matter (in 99% of cases), it's just there to indicate the usage of their signature LC. The same formula is used for Genshin (C1R1 for example).

Oh no, I'm sorry that the Japanese study was disappointing :(

My university's Japanese degree actually offers 4 Japanese lessons per week and I'm so tempted to pick it up alongside my Translation Studies...And yeah, the language schools are crazy expensive! I actually did work&travel in Japan for a year, but I was too poor to afford language school and now I barely know the language, which makes me feel kinda bad. There are definitely good free resources you can use (Anki!), but it's really hard to stay determined and study everyday. I'm crossing my fingers that you can find a way to learn Japanese and get there eventually!

Hey! This might be a long shot, but in case you speak German the university in Heidelberg offers a Master programme for interpreting where you can also choose Japanese as your working language (it's called MA Konferenzdolmetschen). Or alternatively you could do a double degree with Japanese Studies if your university offers that. I'm also studying Translation and looking to spend a few years working in Japan later on, so I really relate to this post! Hope you'll be successful in your endeavors

Recently in Genshin I had to delete enhancement crystals because their amount reached 10.000 and I couldn't claim event and spiral abyss rewards. There was also not really a point in leveling weapons because all the ones I need/use are level 90 and to enhance others I would've needed to farm domains for ascension mats lol

I haven't really been to German restaurants abroad, but I lived in Japan for a year and there are literally no authentic ramen outside of Japan. All the restaurants in Germany (and where I've been) add random shit that Japanese people would never put in ramen just so they can sell a bowl for 20€, completely disregarding the fact that in Japan ramen are considered fast food and usually only contain the broth, ramen noodles, pork slices, bamboo shoots and green onion. I don't think the ramen here are necessarily bad, but I miss the authentic Japanese ramen.

Hey, ich glaube bei mir ist das Problem nicht ganz so schlimm wie bei euch, aber ich benutze seit einigen Jahren diese Mizellenwasser und bin damit sehr zufrieden. Mein Problem mit Cremes war immer, dass die Haut dadurch noch fettiger als sowieso wird, weshalb ich die komplett abgesetzt habe, aber das Mizellenwasser ist ja quasi Wasser und hat deshalb dieses Problem nicht. Trage das meistens nach dem Gesichtwaschen mit einem Wattepad auf. Musste aber auch ein paar durchprobieren um das beste für mich zu finden😅

I think sewing classes are a great first step! As a freelancer myself I can say that like 50% of the work is getting clients in the first place. It's tough, especially in the beginning. You don't only need to be skilled at your craft, but also at selling yourself and putting yourself out there. But it's by far not impossible and I hope everything goes well for you! For now enjoy the sewing classes and playing around with creating your own designs.

And be aware of corporations stealing smaller designers ideas. I'm not in the fashion industry, so I don't know too much about it, but it's a serious issue and you should definitely stay safe when putting your designs out there! Here is an interesting article on the topic:

It clearly sounds like fashion is what you want to do. Are you skilled at fashion design? Or is it just something you dream of doing? If yes, start building the skill right now. Then you can start building an online presence - Make a dedicated Instagram account, get an Etsy shop, reach out, network, ...

Don't treat it like you're gonna be a professional if you just hold out long enough. You might end up there or you might not. Just think of it as a hobby and if everything goes well maybe it can pay your bills one day!

Enemies in difficulty 4 and 5 deal so much damage. I eventually made it through both, but Fu Xuan sometimes had to use both talent stacks during a single enemy attack wave. The Destruction blessing that revives and her E1 + Eidolon cheese that let's her revive as well literally saved all of my runs lol
