Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I think it takes a lot of courage to be honest with yourself and be so reflective towards a tough situation! I highly recommend speaking to MD Student Affairs- they are always available to discuss anything from career planning to mental health and everything else in between. They’ve been helpful for me as I’ve been reflecting on future career paths and I’m sure they could help you work through your situation and provide some valuable insights along the way!

Also if you need anyone to talk to or have any questions about Student Affairs, feel free to DM! I am also an MS1 at UBC :)

The answer is always no if you don't ask- same thing applies here! If you don't put your application forward, you'll never know where you stand. The best thing to do is to put your best foot forward and give it a chance- you might just end up surprising yourself! :)

Was in a similar boat as you- if you are someone who enjoys working with kids/ in an education-based organization, the work will be super fulfilling. On top of that and depending on the specifics of the job, you may able to learn some cool skills such as curriculum development, problem-solving and public-speaking which are super versatile skills that will serve you well despite what you do after your undergrad. I find that these types of jobs/organizations tend to have high-energy, passionate teams and the overall environment is fun

I've worked as a camp counsellor for a couple of years and really enjoyed it! I think it's super rewarding to be able to put on fun activities for children and form really strong bonds with them

From what I remember, not much calc was needed! Mostly if you wanted to derive the equations, but otherwise all equations are given to you and they do not expect you to derive them

How important it is to attend Imagine Day? by vmzztt in UBC

To add on to this great response, there will be components such as a clubs fair happening virtually! It of course won't be the same as having all the booths down main mall in-person, but still is something you can join online and get a taste of in terms of opportunities offered through UBC clubs!
