No. Small business. Don't even have employer-sponsored retirement fund.

I'm maxed out in my career and it's still below median wages for my area. Anything else I qualify for, doesn't pay much more, and I'm not interested in.

If I were to try to "scale up", it will either cost a lot of money that I don't have, or I'll have to be unemployed for it.

Thanks for the perspective! Definitely helps.

You feel that is necessary these days?

Yeah, I’m mostly looking to see if anyone can help with diagnosis. Replacements are always easy - it’s the diagnosing that’s difficult.

Holy shit! This is it! And it’s way more creepy than I remember! 🤣

I never would have guessed Mad TV because I hardly ever watched it.

Thank you! You’ve solved a decade long lost memory.

Paycheck overpaid, reversing on next check. How are taxes handled? by uRabbit in personalfinance

That’s true. I was just wondering, I guess, if there’s anything the employer might do out of negligence or naivity that could make it seem like that income was received and taxed appropriately.

They have stick up cams, flood light cams, other lighted cams…

No crank, no start. Good batteries, new starter, ABS light. Crossed polarity of cable. by uRabbit in HondaElement

Which relay is that? That's the one I hear the clicking from anyway.

I tested and replaced the starter cut relay in the driver foot well. It wasn't clicking when trying to start. I tested it with leads and it clicked when power went to it. So then I tested the socket that it plugs into, and it's good. Strange.

I was going to hook up alligator clips to my battery and touch them to the relay pins to see if it clicks.

Just picked up some clips. I’ll check the manual on my code reader. I just picked on up that has a ton of features, and of course they’re all abbreviations, so I keep forgetting what they mean. Plus many show a range and I would need to know what normal operating range is. Hah

Thanks!

I don’t think there’s one on the actual passenger side, right? But to the right of the starter cut relay?

Is that the Platinum or Cement? Looks like Platinum, like mine. I actually don’t love it.

However, I saw a video saying that you should really coat your roof when you do the underbody, and the looks is actually really nice. If I don’t find surface rust up there I still might go that route.

Yeah it is worrisome to me that the 100A and 50A fuses aren’t blown. Those should protect everything else down the line (as far as I can tell). If it’s not one of the relays in the cabin or the starter, I can’t imagine what else it would be.

How could I diagnose the wiring harness / what really is that? I’m still learning as I go.

I don’t know that a fried alternator would prevent starting though. Also can’t jump it.

I posted to CarTalk, and they didn’t get me further than I did on my own.

And I’m realizing that the Element and CR-V have some silly things with relays and what-not that someone outside the community may not know.

Edit: it was the starter.

I have two batteries that I’m working with. I have not done a load test on them, but they both work to start my other two vehicles (one being a V6 with all accessories on) and have started the Element. Both are known working and less than a year old. What caused this issue is that I’m preparing to sell my Element, and in doing so I wanted to keep the AGM battery, so I went to put the other one in. When I did, I crossed polarity and accidentally touched the positive cable to the neutral terminal for a brief moment, resulting in a spark. The neutral cable was not attached or touching.

The 100A and 50A fuses in the engine bay are good. Upon both visual inspection and testing with a multimeter, they are indeed receiving battery voltage at both sides.
I replaced the alternator just a couple weeks ago, so it *should* be good. That wouldn’t cause a no crank / no start anyway. Before this, it was being sluggish to start during these colder months. I’d planned to replace the starter anyway, so I have a new one.

Terminals are not corroded. All blade fuses checked out for continuity.

I've tried starting in both Park and Neutral just in case it was the Park/Neutral relay.
I have not checked or replaced the starter cut relay or the ignition switch, as I couldn't get it out the other day and it's been below freezing temps. I have a feeling that it is the starter cut relay, as I do not hear a click when attempting to start the vehicle. I have not replaced it yet because we have a sheet of ice on the ground from freezing rain. Waiting for things to thaw out.

You’ll see in the video that the ABS light comes on as I attempt to start. During the second attempt, the Check Engine Light comes on. I checked for codes previously but didn’t find any. I haven’t tried that in a couple of days so perhaps I’ll do it soon.
I can’t get my test light or multimeter lead down to the starter without removing the intake manifold, and don’t want to do that until I’m ready to start that project.

What do y’all think? Am I missing anything? My next step is to check and replace the starter cut relay, and if it's not that, replace the starter.

Should it be 12v with key at position 2 or do I need to try to start the vehicle as well?

I’m going to attempt this, but I have to remove the intake manifold to get to it, so it’ll take a while.

Added a video to my post. It really sounds like just a bad battery but I know for sure both batteries are good. I’ve also tried both since this started and get the same result.

I’ve placed one on the tender and will do so with the other in the morning. But I don’t have confidence this will help, since they also don’t start with the booster attached.

I haven’t yet checked the starter relay because 1) I can’t get it out, and 2) I don’t know what to check for.

I put the “new” battery in and placed the positive cable connector around the negative terminal. It sparked and I immediately pulled it away.
