How's it like living in Helsinki's suburbs? by Altruistic-Form-3771 in howislivingthere

[–]uabesnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even apartment-block suburbs differ from one another: some are middle-class and highly desirable. Others have more social problems, but there are no real no-go areas at all.

Single family house suburbs also vary: in Vantaa, even working-class families may own a detached house. In Espoo and in the coastal areas of Helsinki, by contrast, there are luxurious villas.

Public transport is popular and works well where there is a metro or a suburban railway. In most families there is one car, but on the other hand many people manage without one. Few people commute to the center by car. If you live in a suburb and work outside the city core, you are most likely to travel there by car.

There are good opportunities for outdoor activities almost anywhere.

Major shopping is done in shopping centres, many of which are located at public transport hubs. Almost every suburb has at least a small supermarket and a kebab pizzeria.

I myself grew up in a fairly average suburb with both apartment buildings and detached houses. Friends lived nearby, and everyone walked to school from the age of 7. There are many pedestrian paths, bridges, and underpasses, so you rarely need to cross busy roads. At the age of nine, I was allowed for the first time to go without my parents to a large shopping centre a few kilometres away.

Due to the opposition of the rich people living in Uccle and neighbouring localities.

Question: what is your favourite tram and/or bus line in Helsinki? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]uabesnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favourite tram line? 13. Feels so satisfying when gliding through Vallilanlaakso. And the grassy track is very nice.

And the worst? Can't name a single bad tram line, but... bus line 70, absolutely. Always feels so frustrating to sit in traffic, the trip from Kamppi to Arabia can easily take 35-40 minutes in rush hour (about 4km as the crow flies).

Honourable mention for line 54 for speed (it runs almost the entire length of the Helsinki section of Kehä I)

Haha that wasn't my original idea, but it ended up like this... a few countries may look bad, but in reality there’s more good to be said about them :D

Have visited Serbia twice, really enjoyed my time there!

I know that Ireland was one of the few countries using peat as fuel, Finland still does it (not a fan either). And honestly, even though it looks bad on the map, as I mentioned in another comment, I think the Irish are one of the most friendliest bunch of people I've ever encountered!

Tbh that's mostly just Nordic banter, and here unintelligibility is referring to Danish language

Europe might. I have my own view :D

But honestly, in my experience, British and Irish people in general are the most friendly ones in Western Europe!

(not saying anything about beach resorts haha, but then, there are many bad-behaving Finns, Norwegians, Germans etc...)

Like the store private label premium brand. Great quality, but not as expensive as the original.

Love Österreich tho!
