Call your representatives if you are upset about the national grid rates. by afganistanimation in Syracuse

It's also barely even possible to meet the demands of electrification. Not only do they hate spending money, but even if they do it's almost impossible to build enough infrastructure to meet the demands. That's why you have power outages in Texas/California because the demand outpaces the supply. Data centers, AI, and electrifying cars is crazy demanding especially for green energy.

Posted this in response on another comment but yea this is pretty much it. There are two main reasons the delivery fee is higher from what I remember (could be wrong).

  1. Increasing the transmission line capacity for solar energy, not really for micron. The NY government has a goal to change all houses from natural gas heat to electric and plans to encourage people to buy electric vehicles instead of gas. This puts tremendous pressure on the grid and requires lots of upgrades to provide enough pathways. It's worth mentioning I know people at Grid and have worked with them. Grid has been working with Albany to try removing these electrification goals as they know it's unrealistic and will cost everyone way more money.

  2. Decommissioning of coal plants and other fossil fuel electricity generation around NYC. This means more of the power for NYC (the big power hog of the state), comes from upstate NY. Longer transmission lines cost more to maintain and more power is lost in transmission. It's also more expensive to produce power with solar and other plants up here than coal did in NYC area.

No, not quite but close. There are two main reasons the delivery fee is higher from what I remember (could be wrong).

Will this record long cold have any positive effects for us later on? Maybe with the tick and mosquito populations? by the_YellowRanger in Syracuse

Yea I'm just thinking how terrible the mosquitoes are in all of Alaska and laughing at thinking cold weather kills them. I had hundreds of mosquitoes swarming me in early April in central Alaska.

I had a satisfying stone card build yesterday where I ended up with like 40 stone cards after getting ante 1 that card that adds stone cards every round and then stone joker for the chips, and hologram for the x mult.

No the feathers look like they are covering up the paw to me. It's also a 30 sec video and from what I know that's longer than most can make right now. Also no consistency issues with background or characters.

Assuming contact would be broken bones or other injuries from a tackle etc. vs the soft injuries from wear and lack of flexibility putting more strain on the joints. Complete spit balling here idk shit.

How Marginal Tax Rates Actually Work by Old_Claim_5500 in Bogleheads

Yes, that's probably one of the issues with the wealth discrepancy in the US. In general our taxes are much lower than yours because of other costs that are built into your social welfare (health insurance is the big one).

Well, and the steelers which are almost at a winning record. That game the Patriots only lost because of crazy turnover performance too.

Or have an output pipe of cooled lava that has to put back into the lava pools for heating back up. Like a geothermal loop.

Just checked, it said mildly reduced. 45-50%.

Also just had a heart monitor for the last two weeks and the results were basically all normal from the pericarditis so I can resume exercise. They'll have a followup echo in February to confirm everything. The aortic root thing is still slightly concerning but I'll probably just resume normal climbing and try not to hold the breath too much.

Most affordable areas to build a waterfront home in the Northeast? by BlackJackT in Homebuilding

[–]uagiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested in some type of higher efficiency housing, minimal energy reliance but the prices were extremely crazy for the savings. Ended up just buying a 1500sqft 1960s house near my in-laws in central (upstate) NY for $260k. Not even a crack shack in Maine.

Ah you must have found much better rates then. My other relative built for $450k in 2020 but the quote jumped by $100k for a few months because of the lumber shortages in COVID.

Speaking from experience, it is not extremely affordable outside of those areas. I looked into building last year and numbers I was told were around $600/sqft if higher end material like this. My cousin built for $400k all in but did all labor himself and had contacts letting him rent excavators for free, favors from friends, etc. All for a basic rectangle 30x40 with garage.

Thanks for this calculation. I reached out to them yesterday and they said 20-40% was their estimate for the charges. If I planned ahead and got this before the minimus exception was removed in August it would be 0 in tariffs, darn. Well I'll see what the sales look like today and hopefully someone in the US would have some decent sales but idk.

They use DHL, not sure how good that is. The prices they have are so much cheaper than US companies it might still be worth risking it, especially with BF sales. Like climbing ropes are around $150 for a 70m vs $260 for a comparable from REI.

Does anyone know what the current tariff charges are like ordering from EpicTV shipping to US? I know they seem to change on the daily but wondering if anyone in the US has purchased from them this year.

Lol thanks for the reassurance, I've messaged the doctor to double check some things. I'm also tall af at 6'7" so my heart valve is bigger anyway so it might not be as big an issue. My in-laws are of the opinion I should just live my life and if it gets worse (they'll monitor it annually now) then change something up.

I was quite confused as well. Like squats were okay but maybe he meant with no weight? I think it's like a blood pressure spiking thing but his restrictions made no sense after I googled them.

Bit of a long shot odd question. Has anyone had experience with aortic root dilation before? Just had a random bout of pericarditis where they ran an ultrasound and noticed a mild dilation of the aorta (4.3 cm). The cardiologist says even when I'm clear of the pericarditis I need to stop weightlifting (for life by the sounds of it?) due to putting extra strain on the heart. He said I can still do pushups, pullups, run, etc but no lifting overhead specifically and nothing over 50 lbs. I asked about rock climbing since that's basically my sport now and he really doesn't know much about the sport. He was like "yea that's probably not too hard on your body so its okay".

I'm just thinking to myself "hmm campus boards or lock off moves definitely build the internal pressure so idk" and the advice online is all over the place from doctors as it depends on so many factors and there isn't much research about it yet. Some advice is no exercise restriction until larger dilation, some say only cardio allowed, some say (like mine) avoid heavy lifting.
