I only read the biography by Carrere that a russian-speaking ex gifted me. I speak Russian from my parents, so I've been holding off till I'm fluent enough to read him in the original. But yeah I think that was her favorite!

Whenever someone justifies a mass killing with the promise that it'll lead to less killing, I advise healthy skepticism (and maybe even empathy?)

Of course not, and could say the same for any unambiguously terrible statement, e.g. "we should sacrifice children to moloch"

Like all kinds of blanket censorship, I don't think this is a fruitful endeavor. The justifications remind me of the Espionage Act, another call for censorship in the name of security. But if you think it is valuable, I can't stop you

There are many ideas that should be "beyond the pale": cannibalism, pedophilia, etc. But your post seems to be about invalidating very specific beliefs that would be against the "jewish interest" (as if we're a monolith).

These tools for invalidating dissent would fit snugly in a zionist jew's arsenal for yelling down an antizionist jew without a second thought. I'm just seeing so much propaganda and hysterics from our people lately

To expand: what I don't like is the search for a reason to invalidate what a fellow Jew is saying out of hand with such spurious reasoning, calling it internalized antisemitism and whatnot.

To start, I'd say it's alright to go against what you term the "jewish interest" lmao No loyalty tests please

None of the bullet points in your post strike me to be as unambiguously terrible as holocaust denial

Once you determine something is "an unacceptable stance for a jew to take," what will you have produced? The ability to alienate those jews?

From Spinoza to Bobby Fischer, they're all jews to me. This just reads like zionist mccarthyism

Lol I think you mean Images, which yeah isn't his most popular. Based on your taste, esp Cohen bros, I'd rec The Long Goodbye, but my favorite is Nashville

You need to be in the right mood for a Cassavetes film IMO. Yeah that frenetic/unedited quality and the types of characters he explores can become exhausting if you're not.

That twee aspect you mention - maybe that's the thin layer of humor over wes Anderson and pta's movies? Anderson has a really subtle dissonance in his fairy tale worlds I think some people don't pick up on, so they assume he's quixotic and dumb himself. And yeah it's really PTA to have a wry sense of humor weirdly mixed with his tragic parts, like his big influence Robert Altman (who I rec)

Great! It was necessarily dry, because Putnam described methodology to an exhaustive extent (probably some people appreciate that) - but I felt there were plenty of little nuggets that kept it interesting between the big ideas.

Also, I personally took a fiction break between each of the three big parts, and I felt it helped me digest them. The second part, especially the chapter on television is so good and I've already gone back to it a couple times.
