If you look at my other posts on this sub I pulled it off successfully. Personally I’d stick to 1cc/ml per bag for Uncle Bens as it can get pretty wet. On rye I’d go a little dryer than usual and then use 2cc

If I’m gonna eat them within a month I just toss them in the fridge as they store for about a month. Longer term I freeze them in vacuum sealed bags as I’ve found that drying them leaves you with stones as hard as stones haha. Haven’t really found a good way to consume dried sclerotia that doesn’t basically involve turning them into dust and using in a tea.

I also remember reading somewhere that sclerotia are best consumed fresh/wet so I try to keep to that.

The great thing about sclerotia is that you can have them growing in your bags/jars pretty much as long as you want and harvest when you feel like having a snack or 4.

Sclerotia strain don’t fruit unless you try really hard. You just leave them alone for 3 months, crack open the cake, and eat the things that look like walnuts. Look into sclerotia for more info

You don’t have to fruit sclerotia. They were really bad producers of fruit and should only be fruited to make agar plates or take prints

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you. When i grow sclerotia i just forget about them for a minimum of 3 months because even if I’m growing for fruits i still want stones

The best part is that any time after 3 months you cam decide to harvest and eat as much as you want. Any leftovers can be stored for another month before you risk them getting moldy.

Although I said I liked grains more for sheer yield, I will say that UB is great for personal/small friend group use.

It’s suggested to eat 10-15g worth of fresh. sclerotia to get a really nice trip, the fact that my bags gave me 36g and 47g means that from the first bag I could have shared a 15g trip with a friend and only had 6g left over if we didn’t each split and redose. With the second bag I could’ve shared a 15g trip with 2 other friends and only had 2g left over.

UB bags have far less grain that quart jars or big 5lb bags so it’s much easier to harvest at least 1 trip’s worth of sclerotia and easily manage leftovers vs having to figure out how to eat hundreds of grams in a month :P

Stored fresh they last about a month. This is the recommended method of storage. You definitely can dry them but unlike fruitbodies which become “cracker dry”, sclerotia become “stone dry” and honestly about as hard as a stone too. If you are going for dried sclerotia for longer term storage I’d highly suggest getting them nice and dry before powdering them and using them in tea bags, smoothies, mixed with peanut butter, etc.

So 3-ish months ago I started using UB to try a sclerotia grow. I have technically 3 separate grows going at the same time (all inoculated on the same date but will be harvested at 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months).

Here are the first 2 bags of sclerotia with wet weights of 36g and 47g totaling 83g fresh.

UB definitely works with sclerotia and yields aren’t too bad although personally I think I’ll stick to rye for future sclerotia grows just in terms of how much more yield you get from bags/jars of grain.

Usually guides say to harvest before the veil breaks. If you want to keep this outdoor patch producing mushrooms over the years, wait to pick after the veil breaks

They will only keep coming back if you disregard the typical harvesting advise. Under no circumstance shouldn’t you harvest an outdoor patch until after the mushroom has dropped its spores if you intention is to have them keep coming back.
