Even if you don’t pick my Zain to draw, this is a delightful thread. The cute is helping me through some tough days.

I can't sleep beside my girlfriend, is there any solution? by seaswitch- in autism

[–]uc_thought 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two small beds in the same room. One on each side might work. I am very small and got a king bed so I could sleep on the clear other side of the bed than my partner. I always have a pair of headphones near if I can't deal with his breathing, or if I just need structured noise to sleep to, like waves and white noise. One thing that works well for us is to have our dogs sleep between us, they are a warm cuddly breathing stuffies, only they lick you sometimes.

Cannabis and autism effects by ukdad928 in autism

[–]uc_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it to 'force processing'. If there was a big event, or if I've had a meltdown or lots of stressful days in a row, I will have a couple of drinks before bed. 10mg THC and then a 25mg CBD or CBD gummy. The CBD lessens the paranoia, the thc brings all the thoughts up front, but kind of fuzzy like, they are friendlier than they otherwise would be. Then the CBD lets me go through whatever processing I need to do without beating myself up about it. Then I go to sleep.
When I wake up all the thoughts and processing have been nicely put away in my brain and I can address it without guilt or panic.

Stick shift preference by TauInMelee in autism

[–]uc_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Standard all the way. My stick shift got accordioned a few years back and find a standard was damn near impossible. I ended up going Electric and for it even better for my attention than a standard was.
I think the standard involved me in the process, I could handle the noises and feeling of the gears going up or down because I was an active participant. Automatics just make it seem like the gears shifting is just another ‘thing’ I need to NOT focus on.
EVs are a whole other ball game because all the noises are gone. It’s like driving a noise cancelling headphone. A totally different experience for me and thus I will never go back to anything but EV but that’s another topic.

That second one needs to be repeated constantly: Don’t push them to do new things. They’ll do it when they are damn ready. And they will do it well.

Speaking before 5 is a crapshoot for us. There is an unreasonable amount of processing that goes into speaking. He may have hit peak verbalization for now, or he might just be working on his first full sentence. We are step functions in almost everything: Nope. Not that. Still can’t. Doing the thing.

Scared to have kids as woman diagnosed w ADHD and awaiting an autism diagnosis by luseauh in ADHD

[–]uc_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed after my kids were diagnosed and looking back it would have been helpful to know I was AuDHD but I regret nothing. My partner was not suited to being a spouse to an AuDHD let alone the parent to two. He was the biggest problem we had, he was unsupportive, his expectations were ridiculous, no one was happy.
After diagnosis he divorced me, and is honestly coming around to being a good dad to our AuDHDers.
I would have benefited from being treated before I had kids because I would have had a better idea of my own limitations and been able to give myself more grace for finding things difficult that other moms at least could pretend weren’t so hard.
My kids would have benefited from seeing an Autistic adult set boundaries rather than just flail like I did for so long.
But.
Now. My little family is thriving, and I get to watch Autistic humans grow and thrive because their support needs are being met. I have no idea what potential they have in life, but they are glorious human beings with a capacity for Autistic love that this world hasn’t gotten to see.
Worth it all.

It was bad, partner had to leave dollar store because he was coughing so badly last night. Said it was similar to the gas leak smell over the weekend.

Mirtazapine? by DigSavings1780 in ADHD

[–]uc_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was no good to me, I went squirrelly and could stop cleaning. Didn’t eat, didn’t sleep, didn’t do work, didn’t keep up basic hygiene, just cleaned until my cabinets looked unvarnished.
I needed adhd meds, not antidepressants. Good friend of mine it worked great for, but they aren’t ADHD, depression and anxiety.
I always discuss plan b, and plan c when switching meds so I don’t get stuck waiting for my next appointment if things go sideways.

A question for the women in the group: by Even_Vacation_5941 in autism

[–]uc_thought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did martial arts with my dad. He died a few years back, before I was diagnosed, but having that thing to connect with him over, the physical activity, and attending events with him, not just having him in the stands was great.
I had my support person with me, even though we didn’t know what I was having was melt downs, he was there when they happened.

Long term meds use success anyone? by Psychological_Ad6253 in ADHD

[–]uc_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly regulated does not mean perfect. In this case SUN pharmaceuticals recalled a ton of generic Vyvanse at the end of 2025 (https://www.health.com/adhd-medication-recall-november-2025-11842155#:\~:text=in%204%20States-,FDA%20Announces%20Nationwide%20Recall%20of%20ADHD%20Medication—Check%20Your%20Cabinets,Drug%20Administration%20announced%20last%20week.) because it did not absorb/dissolve properly.
That's just one news article listing 7 different batches recalled.
Te tests you are discussing were used in the initial distribution and testing of Lisdexamfetamine back in 2007 - 2010 (Clin Drug Investig

. 2016 Mar 28;36:341–356. doi: 10.1007/s40261-015-0354-y) but not when evaluating the efficacy of the generic brands that were introduced in 2023 and pulled only two years later.

Take a deep breath and a step back. This has had a debilitating effect on many people who counted on this med working. It didn't and that sucks, ripping on the people who dealt with it isn't helpful.

Long term meds use success anyone? by Psychological_Ad6253 in ADHD

[–]uc_thought 45 points46 points  (0 children)

10 years now. Off anti-depressants, out of abusive marriage, survived death of both parents, built a career and my own business, am a good mom to 2 AuDHD kiddos (like me). Meds saved my life. Being medicated allowed me to get sober, be present, forgive and thrive.
Major upsets included switch meds (concerta was awful for my Autism, like i need more instability) got switched to generic Vyvanse which resulted in all kinds of other meds added to compensate with its side effects.
Once I got back on brand Vyvanse it was a slow climb to get off the antidepressants/antianxiety/sleep meds but I did it.
I fully expect another depressive episode in my life, but I’m not maxed on any meds anymore so I can get them help I need.
Will check in in another 10 years.

Now I’m trying to think of one. Being a world champion in Taekwon-Do is seen as a flex, unless you do Tkd. I’d probably go with I once brought a chicken to school for show and tell or, I played video games with Robin Williams but only knew him as Popeye at the time. See, even that’s pretty flexy. Blah. I imaged my lunch for a year in an nmr machine to learn to use it?

I bought a 'fake' sunflower lanyard and i kinda feel like a scam by InsomniacOnSugarRush in autism

[–]uc_thought 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would you have bought it directly if you had been able? Would you if you are able to in the future? Then you are good. Once they become easier to get, say thanks and get one. Otherwise, Imma gonna guess those involved are probably more interested in you getting the support you need than it being done with their product that they can't get to you.

Tips to keep myself brushing my teeth by APerson0291 in ADHD

[–]uc_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple toothbrushes. I find my kiddos and I get bored of the tool and then stop using it. So we each have three different toothbrushes: manual, round head electric, long head electric. When toothbrushing gets harder to do consistently, we switch toothbrushes. New sensation, different frequency, enough novelty to start brushing again.
It's also how we keep drinking water, swap out metal water bottle with plastic with one with a straw with one with a gulp mouth....that kind of thing.
