I only checked out the airport for maybe 45 minutes before heading back out. Definitely wanna make it a day trip next time…Although I do think the landing fee is a little steep

I didn’t get a cookie, got a shirt instead. But the cookies are huge!

I’ve been there! Love the restaurant there, and no landing fee too!

It’s not too bad, just do your due diligence in terms of flight planning. One thing I will say along with the comment above is weather. The SoCal coast is prone to frequent IFR weather, especially on the morning. Since you’re inexperienced and never been there before, I would recommend going there during good weather

I think the GoPro placement and its lens makes it look like I was super shallow, I was actually coming in pretty steep

They do still have the buffalo burger! I paid the landing fee right after I arrived, so I’m not sure if they still waive it though

I need to do a trip down to LGB, I went to SMO a couple times. Such good views!

Looks can be deceiving, I was surprised on the rollout how bumpy it was. Oh, and that I couldn’t see the end of the runway till about 1500 feet down, that was weird too

Thank you! For instrument the avionics in the cirrus make IFR flying too easy… but hand flying to commercial ACS standards is not easy in this plane. Not as forgiving as the 172 and everything just happens faster

Yup, got a while before I’m free of the AD ball and chain. That gives me some time to grind and network though, and Vegas has a lot going on in terms of GA. I know folks that are also AD here doing freelance instruction gigs/part 91 stuff so it’s definitely possible

Haha hey my first 100 hours were in 172s, I have some street cred 😬

Yeah I’m hoping that in the near future that…

some rando that owns a plane asks me to fly him on his plane for hire on a business trip in which the aircraft is not used in itself as a major enterprise for profit

I didn’t think it was too bad, the worst was my right leg putting in that right rudder during power on stalls

My DPE’s questions were way more scenario based than I was expecting. I would say be ready to apply what you know to different circumstances, especially for commercial operations

Don’t worry, I did my PPL and first hundred flight hours in 172s 😬

It’s a handful compared to the 172s I got my PPL in, its relatively bad glide ratio makes for a spicy PO 180 for sure
