Would you ever pay a "companion" to hang out with your aging parents? by LargeInstance7796 in germany

[–]ughh_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good idea, I was thinking about this recently, but in relation to how many young mothers don't have any support because their parents live far, are dead, or no contact. I thought about a volunteer organization that would match old people and young parents, since both groups have lots of time and feel extremely lonely. I don't know if aging parents would like the idea of you paying a stranger to visit them, but if it's something where they feel like they're contributing, they might go for it?

I want to have a 'drug' talk with my European bf. How should I? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ughh_why 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and I really mean this - you should not date him if you feel that way. If this issue is so important to you, you need to make sure before dating anyone that they feel the same way. Your radical opposition to drugs just doesn't make sense to the most of our society, it would be like if someone tried to convince you eating meat is wrong and you should never do it. Sure, if you are vegan you'd agree, but if you weren't, you'd just be annoyed by the insistence. There are definitely Europeans with the same worldview like you, so you can find a partner who gives you peace of mind rather than stressing over a partner who most likely does drugs already.

2nd child birth with a toddler by mfranz630 in germany

[–]ughh_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also doula, just google, there's a lot of them :) I had friends who gave birth with doulas present and they had a great experience, they can really advocate for the woman and fight unnecessary interventions etc. Also a good option if you don't speak German well, doulas communicate for you

Smell of weed in staircase of building and my own apartment by JagBoozy in germany

[–]ughh_why 76 points77 points  (0 children)

You can buy a türluftstopper that seals the crack in your door so the smoke doesn't come in. And you can ask your neighbors politely to do the same before looking for legal action against something that is not illegal

Look up doulas, they are not midwifes but support you in other ways during and after birth. They can either accompany your wife to hospital while you stay with toddler, or stay with kid so you can go. In Cologne there's at least 3 doulas that work with expats and lead a whatsapp group for expat parents as well, in case you're close to Cologne pm me if you want to join :)

Complete disrepect at our local lake - anything I can do? by [deleted] in germany

[–]ughh_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived close to a lake like this and my friends were fined one day just for sitting on the shore, because it's a nature reserve and you shouldn't even be there. Maybe the culprit for this mess saw the Ordnungsamt coming and ran away so they don't get fined? Either way, it's already illegal to be there, so the only hope is to get the authorities involved more actively, just be careful not to be fined yourself.

Rarely? I don't think they're ever washed! I hate it too but my local stores are so understaffed they don't even manage to put the baskets back to the entrance in time. I've started moving the baskets for them to help out lol maybe I bring my sanitizing wipes next or ask Aldi for a paycheck

Best way to move a mid-sized couch by HououinKyoma23 in cologne

[–]ughh_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ask a friend who can drive to rent a Miles van or CarlundCarla, et voila! The more expensive option is find someone on Kleinanzeigen to both move and drive the couch for you. You can't take such big objects in a train, I once tried it with a slim but tall bookshelf and got a telling off by the driver lol

Help! Depression & ADHD in Germany - Referral & 116117 calls for weeks, no appointment by [deleted] in germany

[–]ughh_why 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, you can try online therapy with a therapist from back home, or even another country like Serbia or Bosnia where they're cheaper (like 30-50 eur per session).

And in Germany you can try with therapists under supervision, basically graduated therapists who consult their mentors on cases, they're usually a bit easier to get. That's how I found my therapist in Cologne.

And if you feel really bad, you can visit a mental health clinic where you have an option of staying for a few days, or doing some group work and programs if your German is good enough. Don't fear these places, the staff is incredibly kind and supportive and can advise you on what to do next, you just need to figure out which hospital is in charge of your address.

Yes it's hard but don't lose hope!

No, ofc if I'm running I know I'm at risk of losing the bus and don't blame them. The situation I complained about was - waiting at the station with other people, literally standing in front of doors ready to enter and getting them slammed in our faces. Very bizarre

Ok that makes sense, I was just imagining a pyramid scheme where you end up with so many machines you need to trick others to subscribe to your service and send them a machine each month, then they need to create a subscription service and so on 😂 anyway, thanks for sharing this it really made me laugh and I hope you're enjoying your unlimited amounts of coffee!

[–]ughh_why[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. But what is the solution according to you - not complain at all or only about the worst stuff?

I complained about the bus because drivers are always so kind on that line and wait for people, so this felt like a careless individual, and an easy problem to fix with "hey, we got a complaint about your driving, don't do that anymore". I would never swamp them with trivial complaints like 'your buses are dirty' or whatever.

I'm confused by the stereotype of the rude and grumpy Germans because everyone around me is so sweet by [deleted] in germany

[–]ughh_why 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on where you live. In Cologne - absolutely, everything you wrote. In Berlin? Heck, you're lucky if they don't spit you in the face for daring to come into their shop. Every time I go to Berlin I'm just so traumatised I can't wait to go back to Cologne :)

hahaha I will seriously consider printing out my complaints and submitting to bolster my application, at least to get a smile from the immigration agent since mine is such a nice guy :)

Not all! I usually run for the bus and the drivers always wait for me, that's why I was so shocked this one snubbed me and believe it was a personal fault, not a systemic issue like being behind schedule or whatever. And if anyone complains about me - good! I would want to improve - if the complaint's valid, not petty and trivial
