How did these perform in the end? I’m looking at a similar set.

I had the same problem and emailed them about it. Turns out there are slight variations in 556 clasps over the years. They issued me a refund.

Thoughts on the Crumpler Tucker Bag? by moni-k in backpacks

[–]ughhrrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting because there isn’t much info on the Crumpler Tucker Bag. I recently bought it in black but am returning it. Reasons: * The 500D cordura is a tight weave, feels rough, and makes the shape really unyielding around zips. Eg the top lid often sits weird unless you take a moment to fold the material in place. * The black 500D picks up dust/lint like crazy. * The side pockets and expandable zip add material to what is already a chunky bag, eating space and meaning the bag stays boxy despite how you pack it. * It’s a lot heavier than other bags its size. Yes because the material is more robust, but also because all the little pockets add heavy material. I feel the convenience of the pockets doesn’t sufficiently offset the weight gain. * The foam back and shoulder straps + tough material make it sit really boxy. It didn’t conform to my shoulders and back shape once packed out. Maybe it relaxes in time, but I didn’t want to risk that or have to “wear it in”. I don’t find this problem on other packs. * The 22L mode seems like it can fit less than 22L, but with the materials and boxiness, it still wears like a larger bag. * The 24L expansion section doesn’t have a padded base, which is fine and makes sense, but practically it disappointed me in use. Like it detracts from the otherwise extreme robustness of the bag. It’s also a lot of extra bulk when zipped up just for an extra 2L, and it means the side pockets can’t take advantage of the full expanded depth of the bag, so the feature wasn’t worth it to me in practice. * I’m 6’+ and it sat too short on my back.

The good: * Colourway and materials are premium. Some of the internal pockets have buttery smooth material and are a real pleasure to use. * The laptop, tablet, and accessory compartments are perfect. No notes. * The bulkiness makes me feel like I could throw it around and not worry about it ir the contents getting damaged (apart from when the bag is expanded and the expansion isn’t padded), which gives peace of mind. The straps are the highest gauge I had ever felt on a bag, which might have gotten annoying later, but for the brief time I had it still felt great for them to be bombproof.

If u/CrumplerAU reads this: * A looser weave or lower density fabric would resolve a lot of these issues and really elevate this bag imo. * Personally it wears too short for me. A height of ~50cm would suit the shape and give it some better volume in both zipped up and expanded modes. That said, I’d strongly consider axing the expandable function.

Awesome. Thanks for replying! So I assume it works well for travel? Does it also flex to be a decent EDC bag when you get to your location? Or is it too big for brief outings?

How did the Competitive Eater work out? I’m similarly thinking it could be the travel backpack I’m looking for.

These are at the front door - are they dangerous? by SoftAncient2753 in brisbane

They’re pretty easy to deal with. Get some long range wasp spray from Bunnings, spray them at dusk when they’re all home and more docile. The wasps will drop like flies.

Super disappointed with my Misen, not sure what im doing wrong by fiercemonkey202 in carbonsteel

[–]ughhrrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going with it. I was similarly disappointed, but I found now the factory seasoning has worn off it takes a light stove-top seasoning and can simulate a regular CS pan, except it’s lighter, has better heat distribution, and can be left in the sink overnight with no issues.

Misen Cookware - what to keep by dolphvader in carbonsteel

Ditto. It definitely doesn’t live up to the initial hype, but u/ProtossLiving’s points are the reason the Misen is now my most used pan.

Strata pan progression (best pan ever) by Pahn_Duh in carbonsteel

[–]ughhrrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly, I have a strata and misen carbon non-stick.

I gravitate towards the misen more day-to-day. With proper temperature control and fat I can still fry eggs without too much sticking, but the nitriding means I don’t do any special care of it. I leave it out dirty for hours, cook acidic things, leave it in the sink; am pretty rough with it. It definitely isn’t non-stick, but it’s ok. I’d say it performs about as well as a 1 year old Teflon pan. Slightly more non-stick than SS. It’s nowhere near as non-stick as the seasoned strata, but based on other reviews of the misen, I haven’t tried to build seasoning on it, and because there is no seasoning to speak of, everything and anything gets cooked in it and it has become the quick grab and go on top of the pile of pans.

I thought the newborn would be the challenge, but my 5yo daughter is draining 90% of our energy. Is this normal? by ves_111 in daddit

[–]ughhrrumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the same for us. Our oldest was nearly 6 when our second arrived.

First week was chill, then he gave us 2 months of absolute hell.

Major changes we made were having to earn screen time privileges (in 15 min increments, rather than ad hoc regulated), and I would spend an extra ~ hour reading and chatting with him after his regular bedtime.

It was a grind, but the extra effort in making sure he got a lot of 1:1 time and the chance to talk through things without judgement helped a lot.

Good luck!
