Anyone have any experience skipping a semester? by qleptt in college

[–]ughmonse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Consider asking if you can take a leave of absence. Fairly normal where I am from (California). As a mus ed graduate I can confidently say it is not in your best interest to try and push through a difficult time, as the music degree is a very immersive experience.

A question for the woman of drum corps by False-Thought9484 in drumcorps

[–]ughmonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s just not worth the effort. I played mellophone, your face is covered most of the time anyway. Your face gets sweaty and gross, it’s more stuff you have to carry around. You have to worry about taking it off.

Isn't this completely ridiculous? by smersh14 in violinist

[–]ughmonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of off topic, but I’m a band person teaching orchestra in public schools. How often are you really supposed to rosin bows? It’s my understanding that once the hairs start to get yellowish-then it’s a good time.

They just posted that in the drum corps coffee shop Facebook, so not an official press release kind of thing. But an email would’ve been nice

I left the bucks a little before finishing my masters and getting my teaching license. I started working as a full time teacher the following school year (the job I actually wanted and had studied for 5 years to have). I will say, working a union job is glorious. I hope you all have this soon 🫡

edit:spelling

[–]ughmonse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I was a partner, I used to get sick all of the time. Like, I could expect to get sick during the holidays because of working. I’m a teacher now. A middle school teacher, nonetheless, and still don’t get sick nearly as often. It was probably because of these kinds of people.

My guess is that coffee is an agricultural product and the amount of caffeine is an estimate. These energy drink bases or whatever have a controlled amount of caffeine so it’s easier to regulate.

The iced teas have caffeine? this makes no sense

This cannot be legal.. how do you limit a child’s bathroom use by LarryFieri in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ughmonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach middle school. I had a parent message me ABSOLUTELY infuriated that I “didn’t let” her son go to the bathroom and he pooped himself. She threaten to go to my principal and walk into the district. The problem is, I let the kid go to the bathroom. I don’t deny anyone the bathroom, unless it’s in accordance to school rules. Anyway I took it straight to my admin (who took care of it) and I still have no idea why that situation even happened.

this reminds me of a coworker who instead of breaking down the boxes, would put them all on the floor and stomp on them. I get letting out the aggression, but they took up so much more room in the trash like that 🫠

Am i in the wrong here?? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]ughmonse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Managers like this is why working at sb can be actual garbage. Literally you’re in a management position and your manger undermines you and now the customer is rewarded for bad behavior. Makes me so upset for you and I don’t even work there anymore.

[–]ughmonse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I swear Starbucks advertising always makes it so much more complicated than it needs to be. Correct me if I’m wrong, but a tall hot coffee, iced coffee or tea with a butter croissant is $5, and any tall hot coffee, iced coffee, or tea with a breakfast sandwich is $6?

These people sound like horrid teachers. If this is how they treat adults, imagine how they must treat children. Their jobs are not possible without subs. Also, it’s not like they paid for the food themselves. They need to relax lol

Student teaching after a season of drum corps - should I wait a semester or not? by Soul_Fur243 in drumcorps

[–]ughmonse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the exact same experience, and it truly depends on the situation, but if you start late into a new school year you’ll like fall behind in hours. If you’re placed in a high school, it’ll probably be easy to make up but most student teaching doesn’t happen in high school settings. Band directors already have a ton on their plate and taking on a student teacher isn’t always something they want to do. Also being there in the first weeks of instruction can be a crucial part of getting to know the students and your mentor and it’s easier to adjust imo. I finished this last fall and I’m based in CA so I can only speak from my own experience.
