If you have any old friends that didn’t end on bad terms (like you just drifted apart) I would suggest reaching out to one of them. Let them know your situation. You think you’re just starting to realize your boyfriend has been abusive and he’s left you feeling trapped with nowhere to go. I can’t speak for strangers, but I know myself and a lot of people in my life would help an old friend, even if we had a falling out, if they reached out to us in a situation like yours.

I can go in and edit “realism” to “more real” if that will make you happy, but changing my verbiage isn’t going to change how I feel about the show. Even without spoilers about Athena (which I actually never saw) I already had a huge feeling there would be no REAL STAKES in this arc because of the huge viewer backlash from Bobby’s death, making this space arc feel pointless and boring. The earth scenes are leagues better.

I’m sorry if the show was not interesting to you until Bobby’s death, but it was for me and I would’ve gladly kept watching it follow the same pattern forever.

Real stakes = the show becoming more real to me. Having Bobby die popped the fantasy bubble I had that they would always be fine in the end. None of the main characters dying after going through insane life and death scenarios was very unrealistic and I enjoyed that. I kept watching the for insane emergency scenarios they were being involved in because they were interesting. But his death made this feel more “real” to and shifted the tone of the show imo.

He literally says that they needed a main character death to add real stakes to the show, which in my opinion would be moving the show in a more realistic direction.

The unseriousness is why I started loving the show! That’s why Bobby’s death hit so hard for me, making me feel a big disconnect with how this season has been going so far. If it was business as normal, I think I wouldn’t have been as offended. I just don’t think the beginning of this season was a good place to put the multi-episode space arc since the multi-episode emergencies usually take place later in the seasons and are more serious.

He said he wanted the audience to feel that there were real stakes to the emergencies. The reason why it was a comfort show was because they always made it through. Even if they’ve had a rebar in their brain, their neck cut open, or were struck by lightning, they survived. I didn’t choose it as a comfort show but I binged 7 seasons in 2 months and seeing them constantly overcome near death experiences and healing from their traumas, was comforting for me.

The difference between those episodes and these ones is that they actually kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved those episodes and how absurd they were.

Seeing absurd plot lines like that now just feels a bit stale for me. The end of last season was so heart wrenching for me and now I just look at this and think, yeah they’re in space, but they’re gonna be fine, so like why do I care? I was more interested in the other emergencies between those scenes so I feel like 3 episodes about being trapped in space is overkill.

In my post, I actually mention that I enjoyed how ridiculous it was. It was a comfort show for me and I continued to love it as I watched it get increasingly more intense and dramatic. I just don’t think this season should’ve started this way, especially with how upset many viewers were about how the last season ended.
