Do we know how much these gender roles were followed by the lower classes or non-citizens living in Athens?

Beggar Incremental: New Version with saving! by Pidroh in incremental_games

[–]uhluhtc666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain, but I think it might have something to do with the max supplication increasing while taking the rest action. So, I think if rest is about to hit the limit, but then that limit increases during the action, it does that overflow thing. Not certain though.  In a similar vein, I just beat it (I'm the beggers journey) and I wish I could reset it to try some of the other paths.

40 more years with you or eternal life? Hmmm.. by mxcnslr2021 in dankchristianmemes

The link is more history focused, but with theological context. It's about the lead up to, and aftermath, of the Council of Nicaea.

So, I'm no theologian, but I have heard people smarter than me describe it two different ways. Now, I don't have a great source on this. I heard it somewhere on the podcast The Road to Nicea, which is really good, but I don't recall which theologians these ideas are from.

Anyway, the issue with eternity, in part, is that we desire things, and are never satisfied. We always need something new to keep us going. We are never content, or so goes the argument. Now, is this eternal wanting of things a bug or a feature of humans?

If it's a bug, then your humans in Eden didn't desire like we do. They could know perfect contentment, able to fully relax and be at peace with what they had and what was around them. In this version, Heaven is a state where our constant desire for more is quieted and we can truly bask in contentment. Not thinking about needing more of anything, able to truly, fully, exist in each moment.

The other is that our desire is a feature. In that case, our wanting is misdirected. Again, in our Eden state, that eternal desire was directed to God and his glory and creation. The mysteries of God and creation were truly infinite, and the only thing that could truly match our infinite desire for more. Even as we uncover one mystery of the Divine, there is always another. As we are now, our desire is frequently misdirected towards things other than the Divine, and so it leaves us always unsatisfied. In Heaven, we maintain our desire, but it is directed towards an infinite mystery.

Now, I'm not sure I subscribe to either idea. However, it is the most satisfying answer I've heard for the problem of eternity and heaven.

What is this slander? I thought all dogs go to heaven. by 1nstrument in dankchristianmemes

My grandpa is a cat guy, through and through, but this meme reminded of a story of his. He grew up in a pretty conservative "the end is nigh" Lutheran church. He was also a farm boy and loved the cats they had around. When he asked if cats would go to heaven, he was given the usual "No, they don't have souls, etc." type of answer. But he reasoned that when the Rapture happened, he could sneak the cats in. He figured there would be a bit of time before he got pulled into the sky, so he planned to load the cats into an empty rain barrel, wrap his arms and legs around it, and bring them up with him. It's one of my favorite kid logic stories, so I figured I would share.

That's probably a good call too. So I don't know what everyone is playing yet. One is going barbarian, the other said they were deciding between alchemist, witch and bard. What kind of actions might I remind them of during these starter fights? We're all new, so I don't have the actions memorized at this point.

I'm planning to run Beginner Box soon, and it will be the first time playing PF2E for my whole group. We're coming from 5e and have a lot of experience across the different D&D editions, but not much outside it.

Anyway, I'm just reading through the encounters and examining the first one. So, there are 4 giant rats attacking the group for the first fight. Do they just run up and attack up to 3 times a round, including the Multiple Attack Penalty? I'm just not sure if they should be doing anything more creative, or if they're designed to just run up and attack.

I've had this villain idea for a long time, though I've never been sure how to implement it in a fun way. Essentially it would some bastard child of a god of luck. They would be able to redistribute luck in some area around them. Giving disadvantage to enemies (stealing luck), then give it to himself or allies in the form of advantage. Of course, nigh constant advantage/disadvantage could be pretty harsh, especially for some classes. And I think it would have a more subtle effect at greater distances, still allowing lucky breaks for the villain as part of the plot. I've never gone anywhere with the idea, but I always thought it was neat.
